    studio construction: plz help

Not an expert, but building a new control room now too. Been talking with pro designers, so can pass along information. According to the pros, it’s usually best to try and have your monitors, mixer desk and listening position facing the shortest width wall in rectangular shaped rooms. Then...

Isolation cabinet design for Blackstar HT-112

Another nice idea! My Marshall JVM1 is pretty close to your DSL1 in tone, what speaker are you using? Thinking a Vintage 30 might sound pretty good. Is that 3/4 plywood & 2"x4" construction? Thanks

I think you'll be happy with the Eleven rack, mine amazes me all the time. There's an excellent user group that's full of wild pre-sets that can be downloaded. Its called "Eleven Rack Presets" Eleven Rack Users Group and Preset Exchange for the Avid Eleven Rack Good luck!

+1 The 1 watt Marshalls are amazing. I had the DSL1 & JVM1, sold the DSL to a friend and kept the JVM, both sounded very similar in tone. I put some NOS tested RCA's in it and wow, insane tube tone from these lil amps. Not cheap, but worth every dime.

    DIY Studio Desk Workstation

I've been floating around the idea of offering custom desks in kit form. A few people I know have been asking me about them, but don't know if there's enough of a market for it. The standard desks I've seen being sold in the music stores look pretty weak to me and don't really have many...

Isolation cabinet design for Blackstar HT-112

Like the idea, may try building too. Used to build ATA cases, might be cool to design one on casters for more storage options too. I like it, thanks!

    Best Amp Modelers

You could consider the "Eleven Rack", made by Avid. Is a very cool unit, very clean sounding and pretty affordable. I have one in my desk for those times I don't want to mess with the Marshall & mics. Has plenty of amp sounds, many are very realistic sounding and the best things about the Eleven...

    DIY Studio Desk Workstation

Nice desk build, totally agree, its nice to build your desk around your needs and desired work flow. Very cool design, looks kinda "Star Trek". Cool thread. Just finished up my 1st desk, a little more basic than yours, but with the current equipment I'm using I went with an "ergo" work flow...

Graduating from Tascam 424 to real home studio... help!

You can consider a DP24 or 32 unit. AD converters sound good, plenty of tracks, has virtual/alternate track recording within each track too. The DP24 is easy to use and records on SD cards, here's my rig.. so far. Was thinking of going with a MOTU/computer rig, but didn't want to fool...

    DP-24 MIDI sync not working

Will that same method work with an Akai MPC 2000xl as the slave?

Very cool, what are you using for a crossover? Have you heard the Tannoy 601a monitors?

My DP24 workstation is up & running!

Thanks for the tip on the addition of a sub. +1! I picked up the 501a's because they sounded pretty good in the store and having their own built in amps was also a plus. They have an HF Trim on the back of them ( -1.5 db, 0 db and +1.5 db ) I have them set at zero right now, but I can agree a...

My DP24 workstation is up & running!

Thank you very much! I'm trying to make the room easy to work in and kind of open feeling. There's plenty of wires and I'm soldering more every day, lol I wanted to hide the patch bay, so its behind the door. A look behind the desk, and you can see my mess...... Just trying to keep it...

    let me see your studio!

Thanks for the props!! Yes, I love those made in Japan Charvel. The craftsmen at the old "Gaki" factory made some of the finest "shred" guitars. A friend of mine had an old Charvel "Model 1A" (basically a MIJ Strat copy with a compound radius neck & jumbo frets) and after playing it for a...
