yeah darrins right, ive never had the oppourtunity to record a female fronted metal band and a singer of that type could benifit from an ldc. mabye id try an re20 or sm7 also though.
also forgot to mention a well placed m260 can asound amazing on a heavy rythm track.
i dont think that sounds bad at all. little boxy but a pretty good in your face tone. for some reason i can never ever get dual or triple recs to sound good to tape. allways feels nasal. they sound great on a stage but i cant get em to have balls when tracking em. those tones you got sound...
yeah there are quite alot of condensors made that can handle pretty high spls without distorting. alot of these are made for certain applications such as the 91 mentioned. i would try and refrain from buying a nice LDC and jamming it inside a kick or putting it right against the speaker of your...
i like it. kinda dark. id like to hear a bit more airy breathyness to her vox but its a very smooth sound. the little scream sounds kinda funny. i REALLY like the guitar tones.
the 603s are solid mics for the $. ive used em alot on acoustics and over heads. the are a bit harsh sometimes though. i actually have some old shure beta green 4.1s and they arent half bad, not to deailed but theyve done the trick many times on acoustics.
i do ALOT of metal and punk albums in my area and have come up with a system for getting the records as big sounding as i can. drums. close mic em and try and get them punch and sharp to cut throught the wall of guitar and fuzz. re20 works good for me on this kind of kick ( adding a trigger to...
do you really believe that any engineer would purposfully make a shitty sounding record due to the fact they didnt like the guitar tone a guy was shooting for. mabye that guitar tone was a peice of crap and the engineer was doing his job and letting the player know it sounded like crap. maybe...
jesus, tell them to hire a differant bass player. tell em you can bring in a session guy to do the parts for a bit of cash. then make that session person yourself.
in order to cope with the many facets of working with a band in a studio or live environment i suggest this following book.

ive had nothing but problems with the 410. it has some sort of la that sounds like latency but theres onthing that should be causeing it. went through ever support help thing until they told me to jus tput it in a different computer. damn thing is buggy and the software is buggy,
when using ldcs as overheads ive primarily used 1. 1 ldc, one kick, one snare and a color (ribbon if i can )in front. the ldc takes some moving as no one spot sounds good, all drummer play differant.
i often do it to vox. send a vox to an amp, bring it back on a seperate channel and blend the distorted on in to taste. good for beefing up an undynamic chorus.
ill often mic the bottom side of a snare if its a crappy ringy, poorly tuned snare. ill even let em pahase out at times to try and kill a crappy resonance. the chain mic can add alot of snap to a weak snare at times. for a while i would mic both sides of a tom just for the hell of it. somtimes...
sometimes the resonace of a drum set can pose plenty of problems. a tom with a long decay can quickly get lost or cause freq problems with other sources, a snare with to much ring can just sound damn anoying, pinging away through the song, a kick with to much resonence can leave the feeling of...
well if your just recording your voice for the fun of it id say you need no upgrades. the system you have will let you do just that, make a recording of a voice. if you want to have a crystal clear, well mixed representation of the voice, then you may need to do a bit of upgrading. a decent...
wires got some great suggestions there. basicly a distorted guitar and many of the other sources will share alot of these mid freqs and often they can muddy up or phase each other out. when recording the guitar make sure to listen for problems in cymbal and guitar relations. alot of times a...
alot of those drums that are recorded are squashed with an older urei (universal audio) 1176. its got 4 little buttons for the ratio settings and you can push em all in at once to get this fat distorted compression. think the new ones have a setting for this and some distressors have a "british...
neutral milk hotel "aeroplane over the sea" is my favorite sounding record ever. 8 track mx5050 im pretty sure and the way things are layered and blend together blow my mind. a good example of the fact that you dont need a million bucks to make an amazing record. should be a required record...
yea theyre a steal for the $. the fact that they a rarely mentioned has kept the prices fairly low. only thing i didnt like was not havving a monitor section. had to bring up the monitor side on free channels for ever. didnt realize how bad it sucked until i started working with a trident series...
