I need to borrow your professional ears......

This is a song of mine that I had professionally recorded, mixed and mastered in my hometown. I'm not completely satisfied with the results. It seems a little rough to me. Maybe I'm too picky, or maybe that's how the engineer thought it sounded best. This is an mp3 at 320 kbps, so it's...

it could be your ram or processor I could see this happening if your processor is to small or taxed by some other live effects. I'd start there. what size ram and processor are you running.

Control interface for Pro Tools LE??

take it from me I like to use two old campbell's soup cans and connect them on the bottom with some 24 gauge copper bare wire then record your band with one of the cans in the room and mic the other can in a separate-but-equal room. I swear it works just like recording lofi, but it sure won't...

Commercial volume question for the mastering gurus...

But...... I used to sneak in my Grandfather's metal shop and weld gongs together with trash can lids. Later on I invented the C band Satelite Dish out of the same gongs when I noticed I could hear "You Light up my Life" by Debbie Boone through the Amature Radio Station I put together with my...

    burning speed

But............... I used to use Reynolds Wrap to make my aluminum foil hats. My hats always had a couple of hanger wires coming out the cone shaped top. After burning at 3.37x speed for years, I noticed the hanger wires were actually helping with the quality of the burn. Back then I used to...

Commercial volume question for the mastering gurus...

Cowbell............ SNL and this thread talked me into buying a cowbell for my son's drumset. It takes a lot of talent to play the cowbell.............hell, it's harder than Mastering.

    which do i choose?

I mix and master with 824 If you are mixing or mastering or both, you need a big enough woofer so you can hear the lows. Anything under 8" on a woofer just won't throw the bass out in that small of a room. If you mix your bass too thick from overcompensation, it will sound like shit on some...

Exactly what is done during mastering?

True Dat Most of the time you do. I used a local idiot that claimed he could master and charged me 500 bucks for normalizing and just cutting the peaks off the tops. The volume level went up slightly, no added smoothness, no added warmth, no change really. My pet monkey could have done that.

    Mastering process

mastering is? 1.Final Polish on the Eq 2.Smooth out the levels of the wave 3.Raise the level of the song 4.Trim the song on the front and back and fade if necessary 5.Make necessary adjustments to bring out the clarity 6.Get the highest quality you can then dither it back to Redbook CD Of...

    Mastering Question

good trashy punk right out of the UK That sounds exactly like it should. I looked at it in wave form, besides some slight clipping in a couple of areas this songs sounds ready to be mastered. The mix sounds pretty good(especially for a first song). I wouldn't call it minimalist on the...

Commercial volume question for the mastering gurus...

I was referring to the song itself since I'm a guitar player I enjoy guitar driven music. yes maybe a little adjustment on the mix levels would help b4 mastering, but turn it up loud, its sounds cool.

Commercial volume question for the mastering gurus...

hey guitarslinger just for shits and grins I downloaded the instrumental mp3 and processed it back to a wave file then examined it. Since this song is heavy, you are probably looking to remove more of the dynamics and flatten it out to bring up the volume. What kind of system or program are...

Looking for good pure bass synth sound software

I'm having trouble with some mixing in the bass area. Everything else seems to mix fine, but the bass and guitar are not sounding well together. I do have some sequencing software "fruity Loops" and I'm just looking for good smooth tone. I've tried playing different octaves and equing and it...

    Free Drink Coasters and Frisbees

Equipment to master with Well currently I've been using my Summit DCL 200 Dual Compressor/Limiter and an Equalizer. My monitors are Mackie HR824s. Simple but productive. I do have a reverb/delay unit, but I also will use the ones built into my mixer. If I'm mixing and mastering I use a...

    Free Drink Coasters and Frisbees

Ahhh back in 1893 They had this cylindrical paper towel shaped aluminum thing with a crank on it and you would spin it manually while it sat there and recorded everything. It has a needle like on a phonograph(what's a phonograph?) that digs grooves into the cylinder. On playback though, you...

    Free Drink Coasters and Frisbees

It's a good thing CDs are cheap. I just realized I have burned about 1000 CDs in the past year and a half in the quest to learn to master about 34-35 songs of my own. In the process I have learned a lot. And I am still learning. I'm thinking of offering to master somebody elses mixes to get...
