    Lend me your ears

Chris, Hats off to your tune "December". Incredibly touching lyrics and vocal style and that cello violin combo had my eyes welling up. Sweet tune. The guys at work thought I had the radio on. I am in the process of downloading more of your stuff. What kind of mic did you use...

    Lend me your ears

I checked out Nowhere radio but they aren't taken any more musician sign-up entries for now. Thanks anyway.

    Lend me your ears

I don't have a website to put this song on. What would be a good site to put it on so you guys could download it and let me know what you think? I did a cover of an America tune called Ventura Highway. I did all the vox, guitars, bass, and for drums, I used a midi work station to write the...

    record player to computer

It depends on the output of the turn-table. Try low first and if you can't get enough gain, go for hi.

    Networking of Musicians by State

Any other sites like that? Ralphworld is like a ghost town. Mostly old ads. Any suggestions for an indie band trying to market their Industrial CD?

    Reverb Or Chorus Plugins

It isn't the plugin but the recording software (Sonar) that allows realtime input monitoring with effects. Problem is the time warp. There is a delay before the effect reaches the output. Not good.

    Which software?

How much do you want to spend? What kind of quality are you looking for? I hear a program called N-Tracks is cheap and does both midi and audio recording. If it's just you recording yourself then all you need for a sound card is something like a SB Live. What kind of mics do you have? You...

    recording guitar techniques

Are you using distortion or a clean patch? Stick with a dynamic mic (sm 57). They have a slow transient response and add a small amout of compression to the signal. Keep it on axis with the cone unless the highs are too hot. What is wrong with the sound? Too boomy? Too thin? Too harsh...

Are leveling amplifiers and limiting the same thing?

What are you trying to do? I think an LA will be a little more smooth than a limiter. One LA that comes to mind acutally uses an LED which is driven by the input signal. The LED gets brighter the hotter the input signal gets and drives a negative feedback circuit that attenuates the output...

    Effect to double vocals.

Vocal Doubling You can get a doubling sort of effect if you add a 30ms delay or maybe a chorus with a slow shallow sweep. Of course the best way to get thick vocal is to actually sing the track again and then even again. That way you don't need any effects and it is easier to mix.
