Best studio mic for under $750?

Shailat, can you tell me anything about the AKG Solidstate? The shop I linked to have it for $700 for a limited time, normal price is $1000... so if it's good it might be worth picking up then? So much to chose from! I'll probably just go ahead with just anything you guys have suggested, and...

    MIDI drum test

I'm curious to find out what you guys think of the drums, they're from a soundfont I recently bought. http://www.xipe.nu/music/dl.php3 (Decide) The song itself is mainly a test for using the drums on, please don't mind my bad singing (or the low vocal level for that matter, the vocals...

    Most Over Rated Guitarist

How the hell can anyone name Slash as overrated?! Eh? He outwrites most living guitarists solo-wise, maybe not outplays... but that's not the point of playing an instrument. Who is overrated then? Yngwie Malmsteen is overrated! He'll probably be playing his arpeggios and scales in 550 bpm any...

    What should I get first?

Like I commented on another thread: the business of recording something is a jungle! Luckily I found this board, with all this knowledge all stocked up. (Thx!) So... this is what I have right now: BASE SYSTEM: PIII 966 Mhz PC w. 512 Mb RAM Soundblaster 1024 Live! GUITARS: Jackson Kelly KE1T...

Best studio mic for under $750?

This is the kind of mic I was thinking about originally: http://www.musikborsen.se/akgsolid.html ...it's $700 in Sweden, and I honestly have no idea how much better it is to a SM68. Would something like that (a tube mic) and a good pre-amp be a worthy investment? Vocals are so important, and my...

Best studio mic for under $750?

I was planning on using my POD 2.0 pre-amp setting - probably not best in the world! :) So... a mic and a pre-amp then. I've heard Amek 9098 being recommended, but it might be out of my price range..? So what's a good pre-amp for $500-$1000? Damn this recording business is a jungle!!!

Best studio mic for under $750?

I'm talking strictly for vocals, and I want as much full tone and accuracy as possible. I've heard alot of good about the SM58, and here in Sweden it's at about $140 - so that's an option. But since I won't be using the mic outside of the "studio" (my home recording corner), aren't there...

Drunk, pissed, tired... Wow, it WORKS! (only up for a week or so, get it now...)

Although the singer sounded a little off-key, and without determination at the end of lines, sometimes... I liked the song and the recording alot. Wouldn't change much, if anything at all. It was a bit too airy though, for my taste, and I'm all for sjoko2's suggestion of adding some distorted...

    Direct boxes, A/D converters?

What the hell are they? Why would I want one? For what would I want one? My guitar (direct-recording), for vocals... or? Trying to learn the ropes here.

    Money no object-guitar.

I think I have mine already aswell, a alder body, neck-through, tunamatic bridge, Jackson KE1T with one pickup, no extras whatsoever. Sustain and tone to last a lifetime.

    Basic information about monitors

Thanks! Guess I'll be getting them monitors soon, as someone on that thread observed - mixing in headphones works very well... as long as you only listen to the music in headphones. Sounds awful when you get the music to a real system...

    Basic information about monitors

I've tried to search for this answer, but there are literally thousands of post ... and those I checked didn't sufficiently answer my queries. Anyways, a) What are monitors? What's the difference between regular speakers? b) do you use them in pairs? do you send them stereo or mono signals? c)...

CD Production... Use a company like Discmakers? Or do it myself with my computer?

Hmm, people are throwing around graphic software around here like it mattered. It's the artist, not the tool. If the guy don't know what software to use he's probably not capable of doing anything worthwhile in it either. Go with a freeware package in that case, or the cheapest around... I...

Getting a record deal could ruin your passion!

The late and great Randy Rhoads occupied himself with building model trains... But you can get dishearted in other ways aswell. I know of a guy who wrote wonderful music (rock-ish) who got a deal but was never given any chance to get anywhere with it (the label didn't support them much at all)...

If this sounds ignorant, tell me.

To address the original point, of government assistance for musicians I don't know of any such thing in Sweden. There are alot of private organistions and companies that donate such money though (in USA aswell, I would guess). Oh, and I know that in Denmark you only get welfare if you give...

    Mixing/Mastering resources?

I have alot of material that I am currently recording. I have been writing music for close to ten years now, and done a fair share of gigs aswell - but I don't know much about mixing, mastering... or even recording. Can anyone give me tips, suggest books, or post some good homepages where I can...
