    Compression Vs. Fader Riding

I don't know about other DAWs but in REAPER, you can assign almost any plug to control almost any parameter. For example, I could use could use it with the mix knob of a reverb to make the room less static and more responsive to louder peaks, or I could use it with an EQ to duck out certain...

    Compression Vs. Fader Riding

Why do you use compression instead of "riding the fader" or, Volume Modulation? I recently tried out Waves Vocal Rider (which is pretty awesome, btw) and after my trial period ended, I found myself playing around with parameter modulation in REAPER, using a gain/trim plug to try to emulate the...

"Tying" levels of two instruments to one another

Hey Steen, what DAW are you using? I grabbed the demo of Vocal Rider (it's on sale, btw!) and it did the trick but now that my trial period has expired, I've found myself playing with ideas on how to achieve the same results without the plug. I use REAPER and it turns out that it's pretty easy...

    Trying to turn tube

I didn't like the Valve Jr when I had it, so turned it around to get a Vox ac4tv. I like this amp a lot for recording purposes and it's done well being mic'd at gigs. I never tried the Orange Micro Terror but you might want to take a look at the Tiny Terror sometime. It has a really badass...

Luthiers, what do you think of this?

I edited it to say In My Opinion, so that there would be no mistaking my words. Here is a link to some pics for your perusal. I await your approval: My Flickr That is not all of my work but a few that I've posted over the years for various reasons. As for the clips, I will make you some from...

Luthiers, what do you think of this?

Ah. Yes indeed I did get that backwards. But there's no need to be douchy about it, man. You could have said something like "Dude, I think you've got that backwards." It's really not that hard to NOT be an ass. And yes, In My Opinion, Ovations suck.

Luthiers, what do you think of this?

Whats this supposed to mean? I mentioned that acoustic Ovations are mostly plastic. This isn't me "parading an opinion". Have you played one or even held one in your hands? The entire backside is made of plastic. I know this because I owned one. From Ovation's website: And as for the...

Luthiers, what do you think of this?

I don't know where they got their information from but that's not the world's first 3D printed guitar. There's another dude who made a couple electrics at least a year ago. I'll search out the link and post it when I find it. As for whether or not plastic beats out wood, I would say that it...

    Drum Mods

If you end up thinking about buying new drums for recording purposes (you can often find great deals on shells on CL), might I recommend buying a smaller kit? I'm my experience, smaller kits can sound HUGE in recordings but are easier to manage, as far as getting mics in close and capturing the...

    Funk song needs new ears

The drums sound like they're in a hallway beside the band almost. They're just not present enough. The organ only pokes thru once in a while and the horns don't have weight to them... when that dynamic change hits near the end of the song, I want to hear that sucker PUNCH. It all sounds a bit...

Got pics? I've got a 58, some 57s (stock & transformerless) and some other interesting dynamics (peavy, akg, shure unisphere)

    Funk song needs new ears

Dig the tune! Funk & Soul are my main genres. The drums are definitely too far back, imo. The horns and organ could be punchier too. To my ears, this mix is too much guitar and bass and not enough everything else.

    Dual Large-Diaphragms

Anything can work... it just depends on the sound you're trying to get. I've used two LDCs on acoustic guitar before and it came out alright. They weren't even the same mics... one was an AT4040 and the other was a Rode M3. Just try it. If you don't like the sound, then at least you've tried...

"Tying" levels of two instruments to one another

I've been wanting to buy that vocal rider plug for a long time now... don't know why I haven't bit the bullet yet. It would have potentially saved me hours upon hours of tedious automation work over the last couple of years. Yeah, I hear you about not using the comp for straight level...

"Tying" levels of two instruments to one another

It's a funk/soul band, so basically when the trumpet's not playing, neither is the sax - except for solos, of course. But pretty much the entire performance has the horns on it. The upside being that the lines aren't super long for the most part, so hopefully that'll make my work a little...
