    Midi Guitars...has anybody used any?

I bought the Roland GI-20 with a GK-3a pickup and it is smoking. It tracks really well once you get the right setup.

    balanced-unbalanced

hmmm..... where to begin. Balanced vs. Unbalanced has to do with how the cables function. Balanced uses a ground wire and two signal wires. The two signals (from the same source) are in phase-inversion. When the cable is connected to a balanced input these phase-invereted signals are brought...

what connections of mixer to use for live recording

There is no way to give advice without knowing what the main board is. The best solution is to pull signal from direct outs (if the mixer has any). The drawing from inserts could work but it may not work if the PA needs those. You will need a sub-mix on the drum kit, unless the live setup...

    Want to Upgrade studio.

I would go for a MAudio Delta card. I've been using mine for years and it still works great and has had few problems. ...... I also think you should get a second hard drive. You can by them really cheap these days and it would improve your performance.

    OS X questions

Dgatwood.... I think you missed my point. This is what you said.... This is what I said.... Here is a link with information on your XPOSTfacto.... link It states "Apple has chosen to limit the machines which are supported by Mac OS X, but XPostFacto can help get Mac OS X working...

    OS X questions

Check out this link. OSX hardware specs OSX supports G3 - G5 processors. It doesn't support processor upgrade cards. I've found that some 3rd party hardware works with some versions of OSX and not others. The Digi001 only works with version 10.34...... my Adaptec SCSI card is not...

    OS X questions

Mac OS designs are not backward compatible with older processors. The RISC chip is not legacy due to it's lack of onboard instruction sets. When coding the OS they usally only include instuctions for processors that are powerfull enough to run the OS without performance issues. I have...

    MIdi controller questions

A little confusing.... yes you should get a controller with internal sounds. play along and record with existing audio tracks?..... Yes while utilizing real time effects from any soft synth or patch bank (from my soundcard) I choose? ...... Yes, if I understand you correctly. Would my then...

    please help

No.... one should be able to produce the time information and the others recieve it. It may help in some way to have an external clock if working with video or a complex computer system (ie multi sound cards) but that is beyond my personal experience.

latency issues with Halion and SX3

Latency has to be reduced to less than 50ms for there to be less echo. Most soundcards that have ASIO drivers can achieve latency around 3-6ms. I would recommend that you try to use ASIO drivers for your interface if possible. This is done in the audio options/driver selection. You may need...

Using an M-Audio Delta 1010? Need input.

They are line level inputs with balanced or unbalanced configurations that are selectable via buttons. My 1010 is wired up to a Mackie mixer via direct outs. I used the software mixer to route all outputs to outs 1 and 2 which return to the Mackie on the way to my monitors. When connecting...

buying a new comp - but which soundcard ?

I wouldn't use any of them. You might be able to get a discount by telling them to leave it off. Then you could purchase a good card like; Delta series by M-Audio Maudio RME Hammerfall RME ECHO Labs cards Echo Mark of the Unicorn cards MOTU

    Guitar pedals for recording?

Once again.... Boss pedals in general are NOT bad! I only comment specifically on the DS-1 in reference to tone. Your clients may use the DS-1 and land their famous butts on magazine covers. I wouldn't use that as a qualifier for good tone. Especially considering the sound of the "famous"...

    Guitar pedals for recording?

I'll stand by my comments. I never said anything about hand-built making them good or Boss being unmusical because it was mass produced. Sounds like somebody is itching for an argument and wants to twist my words into something they can argue about. Get a life. I've been playing for a...

    Clipping/crackling/popping. Possible latency issue?

OK .... your on the right path! Using ASIO mode for the drivers within the program is the way to go. You might have to route the audio using the software mixer within SONAR or ensure that the correct monitor setup is configured. You're close.

    Clipping/crackling/popping. Possible latency issue?

You need to provide more information; what program are you using? What driver is your software set to use? (in the program under audio/sound options/devices?) Computers have many different drivers that it may use for audio products and/or motherboard components.

    Clipping/crackling/popping. Possible latency issue?

Make sure that you are using the ASIO drivers and not the windows/DX drivers
