    The Siefer Vs. Cloneboy Poll

My interest in this whole debate is quite marginal at best. However, how is it that four folks have already voted? There's nothing to "judge" in this contest yet, so how can anyone declare any winner thus far? I realize there are some prejudices at work, but fair is fair. Carl

    using a keyboard's sequencer w/external rack synth...possible?

Some can and some can't. You need to read the literature for the keyboard. Carl

How do I use my sound module racks with my keyboard?

Do you wish to controll all of you modules at once or one at a time? You could always get a MIDI router like the MOTU Express XT. Carl

    online band in the making!!!

I don't have the gear or expertise with digital recording to collaborate online. At least I'm not comfortable with my gear and chops in that respect. I'd rather not be the weak link in the chain that brings the audio quality down. Carl

    online band in the making!!!

It's too bad this isn't a meet in real life project. I'd be all over it. I'm not comfortable with online collaboration. :( Unless someone near me wants to record and ship my files. Carl

    I want a keyboard...but I don't know what to look for

Perhaps I can get more information by asking you some informed questions. For example. Do you think that 49 keys is enough? There are boards with as little as 25 keys and as many as 88. Where do you think you would be happy? Do you require a small set of sounds from your board? If you can get...

    I want a keyboard...but I don't know what to look for

Let me ask you a question. By no means is this a put down. Imagine if someone were to ask this: "Hello everyone. I'm looking for a mode of transportation. I don't know anything about traveling, but I would like to start doing it. I'm pretty sure I'd like to get a car, but a bicycle, bus or...

    Found a keyboard...now what?

I would guess that you would get better software drumsounds than those found in your keyboard. Use the keyboard to control the software drums via MIDI. This is what MIDI is for (among other things). By connecting your MIDI outport to your joystick input (with a special cable about $10)...

Is this a nice synth to buy?

The microkorg is a good instrument and enjoyed flavor of the month status when it first came out. Now it seems that the Alesis Micron has usurped it's position as the best little cheapie out there. Personally, I would recommend a synth module and a good controller or controllers. Carl

What BASS sounds do you use

I use my Alesis QSR, my Roland MKS-70 and my Yamaha DX100. Sometimes alone, sometimes layered. I used to have a Moog Rogue that I used for bass all the time. I sold it to pay for my Yamaha AN200. I don't get tons of bass sounds from the AN200, but I get more use from it than I did from the...

Which do you prefer in the studio???

Actually I neglected to mention two boards that I use in the studio but never ever live. One is my Casio SK1. It's a cheezy little sampler (my only sampler) but the samples are lost when you shut it off. The other is my Yamaha DX100. I just haven't found a live use for it since I stopped...

    vintage synth to computer?

You can use the Casio to play the sounds of other instruments or softsynths in your computer. Which also means that you can record your MIDI performance with the computer or another sequencer. You can play the sounds of your Casio with another instrument or with the computer via a sequencer...

    vintage synth to computer?

Things you need to learn. 1. MIDI isn't audio. You can use your Casio (or other MIDI capable keyboard) to send MIDI data to your computer. That dosen't mean that the sounds your keyboard makes will travel down the MIDI cable to your PC. MIDI is a recording of events. Events like, key on, key...

You just want a sequencer? I could recommend my favorite portable sequencer, but I'm not sure that's what you are really looking for. Carl

Which do you prefer in the studio???

I don't own any software synths. See my live setup plus the roadies inclusion to see my studio gear. (in your other poll) Carl
