I think I would get the brick first, and then worry about it. Most likely, you won't need to stage 2 preamps together. Whoever put out that myth that an SM7 needs 60db of gain did all the noobs a disservice. Besides, is 55db really that much less? {Answer: no.}
On the other hand, the Brick...
I live not far from the "Bass Pro Shop" and none of those jerks were very helpful with tuning my bass. "Pro" my foot. Maybe in the Behr*nger sense of the word...
Just make sure you roll off the highs and mids quite a bit. As long as there is something rumbling around there in the low end, everyone is happy. Although it never hurts to tune just in case someone is paying attention closely.
Here is a great video on tuning a bass...
Hate to break it to you, but you probably need some bass absorption. If that doesn't help, you either need to work more on learning the bass output of your current monitors, add a sub to your current monitors, or buy different speakers.
Why don't you ... uh... compile the vocals? You don't have to keep all the little fragments on seperate tracks. Scoot all the fragments of one complete vocal together onto one track. Surely you don't ever have all 100 tracks happening at the same time...
Is the 128 buffer size not actually ms, but like Kb or something? If so, that only equals out to 3ms. If you can figure out how to mute the direct signal so you just hear the signal coming back through the PT submix, I really doubt you will be bothered by the slight latency. I think you...
Yeah, I'm guilty. I have an OK sound system in my car, and I have it set pretty flat compared to what many people do (hype highs/lows). I can usually get a pretty good idea if I am on the right track as far as balance of highs and lows, and sometimes it will bring to light if something sounds...
Keep a close eye on Ebay for used systems. Ought to be able to get a Pentium4 somethingorother around that price.
Here is an idea:

Nope.
I'm a little concerned with all the newer computers not having very many expansion slots. I guess interfaces and extra DSP are all expected to be firewire in the future. Right now I have 4 pci cards filling all the slots in my old P4 2.66 comp. So no dual core for me. I've been...
LOL.
Oh yeah, hey, I decided I can't afford to buy my software anymore.......because I would rather afford to buy a new plasma TV.
And yeah, mr. t-bag, that is maybe the dumbest thing you have said yet:
I mean, seriously. Silly nihilist.
Thought I would give this a bump in case you have some of these going again and just hadn't updated your website yet. I'm in the same boat as surfmaster--just now getting around to order some of the buggers, but they're backordered. What a cruel trick! :D
PM or email or something...
This is a weird one. Maybe your disc had too many errors on it and their towers rejected it before even starting the dupe? If you are sure your disc plays in a home stereo or car, I don't see what else the problem could be. I'm not sure what kind of ripping they would need to do to dupe 100...
I don't care how destitute you are, it doesn't make it right. I don't make any money playing movies on my computer. Should I be entitled to free downloads then? This whole idea that software should be free unless you make money off of it is a moot point. It isn't just intended for people who...
Why can't you do both-- buy their music and their ticket/Tshirts? Is it OK for the people who can't make it to the shows, to download their music for free on peer-to-peer? Give them no compensation for their creative efforts? Give the record label no compensation for their investment in the...
Now I'm confused. Do you believe in protecting the right of the creator to soley distribute for money his product? If so, I don't see how you can justify using software that some 1337 haX0r decided he would distribute to you for free. Fair use certainly isn't giving away free copies to your...
