Rock that's a little riffy and cerebral?

Just search around other math-rock bands...
My first thought was the 421, but I've used an RE20 in both these roles with good results. The PL20 was another version (same mic, different color) that you occasionally see sold cheaper.
Also a condenser with a built in pad is another option. You can use a condenser as a kick mic, even inside...
That's funny, the other day I recorded some clean parts with a client and he actually liked the reference tracks we'd done better, using a Line 6 Toneport. So, we went back and redid his clean bits with it.
In this case, the real amp (a Mesa Boogie triple rec) had too much dynamic range, and...
That's cool, you can make it work. You could get a nice snake and drop it down the stairs if you wanted to track in the garage (when it's warmer!)
I did a session the other day in an unheated practice space (the kind I like, with high ceilings, etc, big roll up door) and while it was ok during...
Squidoo is just a site for creating articles, they have a system where they put affiliate links in, then you as the author could select to collect any affiliate revenue that's earned, but Squidoo is really meant to earn money for charity. My charity is the Young Inventor's Association.
I don't...
Late to this conversation!
My basic advice would be to do what you're suggesting, keep the room open and big. Those low ceiling are gonna cause problems, I fear.
If money were no major issue (ha!), I'd think about building the loft to be just partial, so that the garage would be full height...
I'd bet money it would work fine.
I had a VF-16 then a VF160, and used the Behringer with it, but there's no reason any other Adat unit wouldn't work. The Fostex will just ignore the low bits.
Buy one from someone who'll take a return, if you're worried. Or buy on eBay, then sell on eBay if it...
I wrote this the other day:

Feel free to check it out, let me know if there's anything I should add (not that I could ever cover everything!)
I put this little page together for comparison shopping, I'm thinking of buying a Vibrolux, if the price is right...
Check it out, I used affiliate links, so I'll make a (small) commission if you buy one ;-)

Kinda silly, but you know how it is when you're home with the...
If you're talking about keeping the sound from bleeding out to the neighbors, I don't think the type of brick will matter much. As to the sound inside the room, you should aim for deader if the room is small, so cover it with absorbers, etc. If the room is larger, you can be more reflective and...
A variation on this idea is to set up a compressor or two on effect sends. Then, you can send some vocals, drums, etc and get some nice parallel compression happening. Search for Michael Brauer Compression on Google and you'll find some good info. He basically groups things into different groups...
I'd have to agree here. I've recorded a couple of guys with the Line 6 modeling amps and they sound pretty bad through a mic. I think doing a DI track and using the Pod farm plug-in would sound better (though even that can be tricky to get to blend with your mix.)
The reverb comment I...
I don't think the tile will help, mostly lower frequencies will pass through the cement, and the same for tile.
If you want to deaden it dramatically, you can fill the brick/block with sand as you build the wall.
You can also build a double wall with an airspace in between.
How much are you...
Depending on the plug-ins you have, you probably already have some very good educational material.
Insert a compressor plug-in and start going through the presets. Try to hear what's different, and notice how the controls are adjusted. You can start to get an idea of what the knobs do pretty...
Got my ACMP84's the other day, perfectly packed, very nice looking. Used them on a session over the weekend on electric guitars, sounded very good. I'm excited to try them on vocals, perhaps snare drum. If I had any concerns it might be that they seem rather hot on the input. Even with the input...
You should try out Sonic Birth. It's not a component emulator, but let's you build plugs, and you can do it within the host app, with AU's anyway. Creates VST and AU plugs for mac:

Well, he could just post on here (GS, PSW, etc) asking active members to send an email with their name, email address, and a general description of their order. Then, he could use the emails to figure out which order to fill next. Sending an email would be basically stating "I'm here and ready...
Just a thought, but it should be possible to find the names of those of us who log into the console regularly, to check our status. If you pull those names first, you're likely to get paid immediately (or very quickly, anyway.) People who haven't logged in recently might be candidates for a...
