    Judge My Drum Mic'ing Method!

I just meant compression, EQ, etc. But yeah, I'll deff be recording soon. I dont have a set of my own, just recording others. http://www.box.net/shared/apg7cfmkdy This is just all 3 channels into one track, because I didnt know how to get 2 tracks at the time. And it's mixed/mastered, not my...

    Judge My Drum Mic'ing Method!

Hey guys, It'd be great to get some feedback on the way I mic drums. I'd appreciate if I didn't get "Go buy more mics." because I'm saving up for some atm. I have 3 dynamics. - One is placed about a meter above the snare, and facing the snare. - One is placed inside the kick drum and position...

    Panning Not Working

So.. whenever I try to pan a mono recorded track, it doesn't fully. I can still get some noise from the other ear. Ex: I pan a track left 100% on both the track on the multitrack and on the panning knob for the track itself. But I still hear the track on the right ear phone as well. How do I...

    HELLLLLP......Hats are too F#@%ing loud

Maybe this guy's just bored. He's disrespecting us while we offer advice. If it's been 15 years of you recording, how have you not encountered a problem like this before? I'd suggest re-doing the entire thing if the hi-hats ARE that loud. Examples? mp3s?

    Oh Lord My Ears!!

I mean the whole thing sounded mudded down coming out of one frequency. There really is no low end.. and... blehh I'll probably end up doing everything myself at his place. He happens to have much better equipment than I, but lacks a bit of experience and skill is all. Thanks all <3

    HELLLLLP......Hats are too F#@%ing loud

I just think your mics are giving the hi-hats too much attention. Are your mics right above your hi-hat? If so, then place them further away from the hi-hat and closer towards your cymbals. Also, make sure your snare mic doesn't catch noise from the hi-hat so much. Simply cup the snare mic with...

    Oh Lord My Ears!!

I promised a friend I'd record at his studio an entire EP. He just finished mastering a demo for this dude: http://www.myspace.com/andrewneedaname I kind of don't want to be an asshole and tell him that he over equalized it, as well as giving it too much FX.. Should I take the roughs from his...

How do you get rid of the "sss" sound?

Well I don't think the program is the problem but your rough recording. What kind of mic are you using and in what environment?

    buses and sends???

buses let you use the same effects on multiple channels without having to add them in individually. you just make one list, then link all the channels you want that effect to affect to it. that 'list' is a bus. you want to send your channels to that 'bus'. i never use sends, so.. i dont know...

    $4 USB Sound Card

Ahh, I didn't know that. Well.. maybe just a multi-line in soundcard would work?

    Single Tracking Drums

I just discovered something that's been in front of me for the past 2 years. Call me a noob, but I finally realized I can select the mono settings for my line-in and pan left/right to get two recordings at once. Thus, I get a mono cymbal/tom/snare channel and a separate kick channel. =] Now onto...

    $4 USB Sound Card

Okay so I was doing some browsing for the interfaces and all I can say is.. out of my budget. lol I think I'll just stick to the USB interfaces, I won't be doing anything big time with my recordings. Are there any decent interfaces with 2-4 STEREO channel inputs? All the other ones were simple...

    $4 USB Sound Card

Thanks for the replies guys, and uhh.. nice to meet you too Tim? I'm not the smartest guy when it comes down to soundcards, so I figured I might ask you guys for advice =] I've been looking into the whole deal with firewire vs usb. If i wanted to go firewire, would I have to buy a firewire/pci...

    $4 USB Sound Card

Hey guys, look at what I came across. http://www.shopacc.com/details.php?pID=external-usb-sound-card I was thinking I could do a lot of money saving and buy 3-4 of these, hook them up to a multi USB console, and cheap my way into doing multichannel recording. What do you think? <33 Grape...

    Single Tracking Drums

Oh wow, thanks for the replies guys. I'm using a crappy $15 soundcard for my P.C., it doesn't even function with ASIO. I'm starting to use my laptop more though, which does function with ASIO, but is Vista (-.-), so I think maybe buying a USB interface should work?

    Single Tracking Drums

Well I do have a mixer and 3 mics. I'm going to order 3 more when I get the money, I just can't balance out the mids of the kick that I DONT want with the mids of the snare that I DO want. The mixer only has the EQ settings of Low 80Hz, Mid 2.5Hz, High 12 kHz I want to get rid of the 250-1000 Hz...

    Single Tracking Drums

Hey guys, So far in my experience of recording, I'm still not at the point where I can afford things like fireboxes or mixers that let you record mics into separate tracks. I've always single tracked for drums and it is pulling me back so much. We need to spend more time getting the right...

Whoo!! First recordings ever since I bought my new stuff

Yup. I started looking around noticed most people are well over their 30's and 40's. Whole different generation of music. I was actually wanting some comments on the sound quality rather than composition quality.
