I can't think of a drummer that I think is the "worst drummer". If you're out there making money and putting a roof over your head just by playng drums then you have got to be doing something good. But Lars Ulrich is the worst drummer to listen to in an interview, he sounds like a total jack ass...
So many tones to pick from. But the modern hard rock/ metal tones just seems to be a mesa boogie & Pro tools combonation. The best advice is to just do what you feel and do some experiments to find a sound that is best for you. Don't try to copy the sound of today, because it will sound dated...
I thought Starclassic was the above "mid level". I was thinking a mid level Tama set would be the Rockstar/Rockstar custom. Then again I'm a guitar player that just dabbles in druming.

I think this album get overlooked but this by albums like Moving Pictures, but this one of the best CD's in my opinion.
I think this is one of those "you got to try some out and see for yourself" type of deals. Or at least give us an idea of what you're looking for, like bridge, neck, pick-ups, and so on.
