    Protools!!??

After posting on and surfing various recording forums and culling opinions, I've decided that for MY home studio needs and computer neophyte tabla rasa I'm going with Digi 001 and Protools LE 5.1 on a Mac. I'm trying to figure out a few more things and then hopefully purchase all this stuff...

What do I need to split a guitar signal?

True but I wonder if the impedance load of the cables would screw witht the tone. I'v heard the Sansamp Bass DI (I know you said guitar but stick with me) can also be used as very transparent splitter for instrument level guitar or bass with passive pickups. Look into that.

    Wave Digital

Someone on one of the recording forums somewhere raved about them. I have spoken with Gil and Chris who were helpful. I'll very likely purchase my DAW from them next month: probably Digi 001 with Protools LE 5.1 and one of the "Advanced" or "Ludicrous" Mac systems. I'm would not be surprised...

    Digi-001

Robert and all, Thanks enormously for your input, esp. regarding mastering CDs. I have read nothing but flattering posts acroos the 'net regardng T-Racks for mastering. I will get some RTAS and audiosuite (not TDM) plugs-in. Over the course of several years I don't think their cost difference...

Digital Peformer--haven't heard much at all about it, neither good nor bad. I haven't seen Digital Performer either. That's part of the problem with choosing these products: it's hard to see and try these systems out because very few stores have them set up on a computer. I'm not into MIDI...

    Digi-001

Robert Jaybird and Cyan Jaguar, Thanks for your inputs. Cyan, one key issue for me is this is my first jump into hard disk recording. The last time I did serious recording was around 1985--all analogue and a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The reason I am strongly inclined to go with...

    Digi-001

Why? To have the Protools LE user-friendly software. I don't need more than 24 tracks and the RTAS and audiosuite plug-ins should be enough for me. I'll admit it would be sweet to use Steinberg Recycle. Oscilloscopes and waveforms can tell but can we hear a difference with a 96khz system...

    Digi-001

In the Digidesign discussion forum http://duc.digidesign.com do a search to find several threads regarding Dig001 owner's use of Apogee Rosetta or the cheaper but supposedly phenomenal RME converters in front of the Digi 001. This allows you to use the LE software. It's supposedly very easy to...

    Digi-001

The promotional video for the Digi 001 with Protools LE is extremely seductive. The software seems phenomenal. For my needs there are enought RTAS plug-in in either Mac or PC platform. It seems the Digi clan is split on PC vs Mac platform. Even if the converters and mic preamps are very good...

    Digi 001 or Cakewalk 9/Sonar

I checked the Bombfactory and Digidesign websites and both indicate RTAS plug-ins work for PC Windows 98/ME and Mac. I note that most of the literature/periodical reviews of the Digi001 with PT LE use Macs as does Dig001 video. (That video is seductive. And I'm attending a PT Digiworld session...

    Help recording guitars

Instead of killing yourself with mic selection, placement, and rooms choice, try a POD, J Station, Yamaha gtr direct red box (I forgot the name) or even better a Sansamp PSA-1. In fact, if MARS is near you, you can buy it, try it, and return in 30 days for money back. Slimey but doable. For...

    Digi 001 or Cakewalk 9/Sonar

I really hate to waste bandwith because I know the Mac vs PC dead horse has beaten beaten to death so many times the workers from the glue factory are checking the forums. However, I've gathered the general consensus is that dollar for dollar I get more power with a PC--I'd get a PentIII933mhz...

    Digi 001 or Cakewalk 9/Sonar

Thanks for taking the time to give the advice. My originals are rock, metal, and jazz/funk @ Marcus Miller--no techno for me. The key issue will be looping recorded phrases, editing, and mixing. I think PT LE hs enough plug-ins for my tastes: I'm not big on fx in music and PT LE has enough...

    Digi 001 or Cakewalk 9/Sonar

I'm trying to decide between the Digi 001 (Mac or PC) vs. Cakewalk v9/Sonar when it comes out. Regardless of the platform, what made you Cakewalk users choose it over Digi001 with Protools LE? I'm interested in user friendliness and sound quality. Number of inputs and extensive MIDI aren't...

    Digi-001

Are you happy with the sound quality converters and preamps on the Digi 001? I've heard mixed things from great to mediocre ("what do you expect for a complete package for less than $800?"). I'm trying to decide between the Digi 001 on any platform (I have a pretty good budget for the PC or...

Mark, One of those computer illiterates may very well be me. I'm not offended, not upset, and clearly not thin-skinned. Anyway, how am I supposed to get computer literate? Courses at the local Gateway country store seem like a joke. However, I'm willing to give DAW via PC route a go if I...

    F I R E W I R E: What is it ?

Seems to be generating excitement. I have no clue what it is.

    Digi-001

Why? Digi001 may not be the greatest in the world but I would think it is very good to say the least. Also, since I'm starting out new to DAW I have gathered PT LE has a shallower learning curve/is more use friendly than Logic Platinum and Cubase. Cakewalk is supposedly user friendly but a...

    Digi-001

It's good to hear that. I'm going to purchase a DAW PC in March-April and probably go with the Digi 001 which should suffice for my needs. Some people on the forum knock the converters and mic preamps. I know RME and MIDIman are supposedly better sounding but I really want the user-friendly Pro...

    a real computer for music?...

The links to Carillion and Drastik Solutions don't work at this time. Are they correct links, websites down, out of business? Tangentially: I read these forums which can be very helpful and I am grateful for peoples insight. But sometimes I wonder where I am. Is this "Home Recording" or...
