Joe Meek VC1Q any good ?

The CS has a different transformer or something like that. I forgot the exact details but the non-CS version supposedy sounds better ....it was uninamous in what I had read on the web on multiple recording forums.

    The listening sessions...

Tangential are the 3D Audio CDs. I'm selling them. Kind of a shameless post but they were a heck of an education for me. I fortunately don't have the golden ears some others do. It saved me a bundle from spending too much on legendary mics and mic pres...

Mic pre for acoustic guitar & some vocals

Thanks for all your help. TANGENTIALLY: Re: GAS: The mic & mic pre is where I'm at now. I do want better monitors but that's for another thread. I have a Mac G4 with ProTools, Digi001, RME ADI-8 PRO converters. Guitar and bass gear is quite high end and that g.a.s. is pretty much done.

Mic pre for acoustic guitar & some vocals

Especially for acoustic guitar consider a high end Joe Meek, maybe Vintech Neve clone, etc? Trying not exceed about $1k or so.

Master house: I should be there, right?

In my e-mails with Bob Katz he said it usually costs more to master when the artist is present for very simple reasons: he charges on an hourly basis. If you are not there, then he can work at lightning speed without interruption. If you are present and ask questions, comment, discuss, and just...

Master house: I should be there, right?

Thanks. I'll go to the sessions and am leaning towards Bob Katz in FL. He's about two and half hours away and has been extremely helpful with e-mail. I'm sure it will be more money when I go because masterering engineers appear to be paid on an hourly basis and I will definitely interfere with...

Master house: I should be there, right?

In about a month my songs will be 'ready' to get mastered. I have recorded, engineered, and mixed at my home studio to the best of my abilities. I plan to send this out to a place like Oasis for duplication and marketing and a relative who is in charge of PR at MCA in Nashville. 1. I ass/u/me...

panning from ear to ear for a short section

So far I like doing it freehand at 1/2 speed (and then playing back at normal speed of course). This helps me move the panned riff with the feel of the music or the vibe.

panning from ear to ear for a short section

I don't know about your system but it's real easy in ProTools. If they are similar.., If you system can playback at 1/2 speed and you can automate the pan, then the slide from L->R or visa versa can be very precise.

    EQ techniques: Newbie

That's great! Thanks all! I fooled around a bit last night. One track I cut 60Hz on the kick and it separated the Sadowsky jazz bass nicely. Recorded DI from a Kern IP 777. On another I lightly boosted 1Khz on a guitar solo (very thick distortion with an octavia clone) and that was sweet.

    EQ techniques: Newbie

I meant pearls of wisdom or experience regarding general bands of frequency to watch regarding electric guitars clean and dirty, drums, electric bass, male and female vocals, etc.

    EQ techniques: Newbie

No, I expect to EQ individual tracks and not just across the whole mix. But I think/read that EQing a track in solo and out of context with the mix doesn't allow one to appreciate how it will sit with the rest of the mix. Example, an acoustic guitar EQ shelved with cut off below 180Hz would...

    EQ techniques: Newbie

I've got the songs for my 1st to-be-CD recorded and mixing levels and panning is pretty much finished. I ass/u/me I need to EQ to get a better separation and identiy or clarity of instruments in the mix. I know I should EQ only in the mix and not with tracks solo. I should cut and/or boost...
