Can Octa-capture play nice with loud guitar amps and distorted guitars?

Are there specific specs i can look to in an interface to know if they're going to handle loud distorted guitar and overdriven amp sounds well? I'm considering the Roland Octa-capture, due to its positive reviews, features and price. But I'm a rock guy, and I'll be using this to record amps...

Favorite mic for recording a Bassman RI and a tele?

Any tele/bassman RI (preferably LTD) users care to comment on their favorite mics (under $300) for recording the two? And while we're at, mic placement?

zoom R8 vs. 16 or 24 as an interface

Anybody ever compare the zoom R8 with the R16 or R24 as an interface? Wondering if there's any significant difference between the three of them strictly as an interface. I'm running cubase le in a windows 7 machine. thanks!

So what's an audio interface upgrade going to get me?

Sorry to be absent from this thread. Life got complex very quickly. I went back to listened to some of my original tunes that I've recorded (once I have them copyrighted I'll post 'em; sorry for the paranoia). Those where the guitars are recorded with real amps sound noticeably better (clearer...

So what's an audio interface upgrade going to get me?

I'm considering an audio interface upgrade. Right now I'm using a zoom r8 as an interface to record with a windows 7 PC with Cubase le as my daw. I'm going to have about $500. For me clarity is key. I'll be recording at most two tracks at a time, so I don't need a ton of inputs. I'll be...

Do I need a direct in box to capture DI track for reamping...

One of my inputs on my zoom has on option to switch from mic/line to hi-z. I was leaving it on hi-z to capture the dry signal but I'll try switching it to mic/line. I'll also figure out which of my pedals isn't true bypass. I have a bunch kicking around so hopefully one of them will fit the...

Do I need a direct in box to capture DI track for reamping...

Or can I just plug straight into my interface? I have a high impedence input for guitar on my zoom r-8, which I'm using as an interface. So I'm plugging straight into that to capture the DI track. Would going into a direct in box first give me any advantage? I'm not worried about monitoring...

Sound quality of free amplitube and buying individual sounds vs. buying full versions

So if I download the free version of Amplitube and purchase individual gear downloads from there, will those have the same sound quality as if I bought the full versions? For instance, if I paid for the full version of Amplitube 3, and then purchased the full Fender download suite, would, let's...

Drum programming software between $150 and $200?

Hey thanks for posting that! Great stuff in those libraries, they do really give a feel for the sounds. I liked what I heard in the Slate library posted beneath your OP. I'll have to dig into that some more. Thanks!

Drum programming software between $150 and $200?

Need a recommendation on drum programming software. I need something that sounds realistic, allows me to include mic bleed through, and that will allow me to program a drum track by scratch in addition to letting me work with prerecorded grooves. The sounds I'm after would be similar to Max...

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

So do people tend to use preamps as interfaces, or are they using them usually prior to an interface? I guess this begs the larger question of what are guys typically using as interfaces in home studio set-ups, assuming they have around $300-$500 to spend? Are they using preamps, mixers, actual...

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

You're correct. The problem is occuring when I play audio back from my daw through the zoom. So I'm assuming the audio is digital. And again, the same zoom unit did not have this issue on my previous set up. I am starting to make adjustments by keeping the levels lower, but it's still something...

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

Ok, since I'm still pretty new to the recording world, and it sounds like the zoom may be the weak link in the chain, what are a few better interfaces for recording with a pc when utilizing a daw such as cubase? Anything in the $200-$300 range? How about somewhere between $300 and $500?

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

Ok, I uninstalled cubase 5 and went with 6, and I also reinstalled the drivers. Same problem. I mean, it's not horrible, I can definitely use it for recording, mixing, etc. It's just I have to keep the levels down much further then I'm used to, and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle mastering...

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

Hmmm.... now that I'm re-reading your post, I'll go back to see if I'm using the right driver. I'm pretty sure Zoom didnt' give an option for windows, in other words I think there was only one driver available for windows and one for mac, but I could be wrong on that. Let me check that out. To...

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

That's what I'm thinking too, but I reinstalled the driver twice, once with the latest version from Zoom's site and again with the driver that came with the R8 on the SD card. The issue was still a problem both ways. I may try contacting Zoom's support site. Not sure how successful I'll be.

Lack of headroom with new pc for recording - please help!

Ok, so I just got a new i5-3470 quad core HP pc for recording. I was using an i3. Both have windows 7, although the i3 was 32 bit and the i5 is 64. I'm using Cubase LE with a zoom R8 as an interface. This setup sounded fine on my i3. Now however, on the i5 I have much less headroom when playing...
