    Recommendations for recording stuff...

I need to record vocals as well.... The Peavy RQ200 mixer seems to be the cheapest mixer I can find... does it have preamps built in? (or do all mixers do?) Pardon me, I'm new to all this.. Pier.

The hoontech SoundTrack Audio DSP24 Value looks good... but does it come with onboard preamps? Or do I STILL have to buy a mixer ? :( Pier.

    Recommendations for recording stuff...

I only need to record one source at a time, and I currently have a Soundblaster value live, which I may upgrade to an Soundblaster Audigy (it's 24bit rite?) ... but what is troubling me is that it seems that I need a preamp to boost the signal from my passive guitar pickup or microphone before...

    Gee....

I think it's because it's a 10 buck mic... heehe. But I expected it to sound better than the computer mic... Really like to get a mixer and a good microphone, but just cannot afford it right now. Sigh. Pier.

    Is this all I need?

Donny, thanx for your reply. Another question, if I get this peavy set, it doesn't come with mic preamps... so do I have to get another mic preamp to bring up the mic first? but since I only want to record one channel at a time, isn't it okay to just get a mic preamp instead of a mixer? Pier.

    Is this all I need?

    What about this?

Yeah, drstawl... but this way, I wouldn't be able to edit individual tracks using Cakewalk Pro's plug-ins, would I? I guess it's either one or the other? Another small question - when the mixer turns the mic in to line level , I can plug the output to my 1/8" line in or mic right? (by using a...

    What about this?

total newbie here... Just want to know whether I can run my mixer to my awe64 sound card's 1/8" line in and mic in? What convertor is needed? Does the mic have to go through the mixer to the mic in? (or, in other words, does the mixer act as an pre-amp?) Let's say, I have a mic on channel one...
