Brent, I've got two VTB-1's, and on one, if the dynamic range of the signal does decrease when the tube blend is maxed, it decreases so little I can't really see it....with my other VTB-1, however, with the questionable defect, the signal decreases by 50% -- with a wave signal that looks like a...
I just read the article in tapeop with Carol. She talked about using mutes on her bass, and there's a picture of her with a Fender, and she's got masking tape going across the strings right above the bridge. She also talked about taking a piece of felt, doubling it up, and taping it to the...
mcolling: It's a drastic compression. If I've got the faulty pre set with the meter in my pro tools hitting the yellow and an occasional red, turning the dial up to 3 p.m. stops the reading a lttle past midway up the meter poll -- cutting it almost in half. Using my "good" pre, turning the...
Okay. I tracked with my other VTB-1, and no compression like the other. Must be a tube problem. I'll get in touch with SP just to verify before I get in there and stick in another tube.
Robin -- thanks for the tip. I'm sure I would have noticed this before, but haven't, so maybe it is a tube issue, and it's recently gone wacky on me. I'll check my other VTB-1 and see if it also compresses...
Thanks for the rep nom and support, mcolling! I wasn't expecting a debate on the "distortion" quality of the VTB-1, but rather the compression that occurs when the tube's dialed up (that's what I find interesting). There is, however, definite breaking up when the dial's turned up -- at least...
I've been recording, mostly mic'd acoustic instruments, with the VTB-1 for over two years. I recently acquired a lefty jazz box and tracked with it today. I wanted a dirty sound, so I dialed in the tube at about 4 p.m., getting a pretty nice sound with a touch of crunch. The sound wave was...
"Chinese Crap"?
Lay off the Chinese, you idgit. They consistently build to American specs (including choice of parts). The same thing would be churned out in America with the same specs/parts.
"Play like a man?"
You frickin' neanderthals.
Two choices: Get the right drummer for the music, or Gemsbok has given you the best advice for fixin' the problem.
And just maybe, this guy's got the right juice -- it's just not what you were anticipating. Can you post a clip? Could be tops!
Deepwater, you consistently exercise, truly, an incredibly-poor command of the English language and horrible spelling...are you from a country other than the U.S.? Oh, I'm sorry, that's rude. But, come on, man, if you're going to be a businessman, you really need to spell correctly and sound...
What? Harvey was banned, and Deepwater's "big heart" into his pockets is allowed?
Well, that's up to who runs this board. It's hypocritcal, but, that's Dragon's choice, not ours. This Board's pretty lame lately, anyway, so...why not spice it up with controversy?
Ronan? You did a shoot out with the B3 with other mikes and was underwhelmed? Well, condeming Studio Projects based on one mike. And I think your credibility lies...uncredible.
My computer is in an adjacent room -- small hole drilled at the bottom of the wall just big enough to get all the cables through, with socks (or whatever) stuffed in the hole to help insulate it.
Great attitude. Do what you can do. Music is of the arts, and artists do lots of free shit to get where they're going.
Kids, listen up and take notes: It's your life, have fun, and if someone disagrees with you more than once, then I'd say they don't fully believe in what they're...
I've found, personally speaking for my own "performance" while singing, that silibance can be controlled by paying attention to how you say an "s" word. In other words, if a singer can consciously think about it without it hampering a performance, silibance can be controlled...orally.
