    A question about room reflections

I just read the manual for the hd24. It says "4. Have the performer play the loudest section of the song you're about to record. Adjust the gain controls of your mixer(trim, channel, and master) until the loudest notes fall just below the Clip indicator on the HD24's meter." So Alesis is saying...

    Kick Drum Speaker???

Maybe a bad question... but has anyone ever tried using a speaker as a mic for a kickdrum? I'm going to give it a go tonight and was looking for a success / disaster story or two!!!

Please Help! I have the FAKEST recorded guitar tone EVER

With everything that you have tried, has anything helped? Did going direct make things worse?, better?, what mic's? What sound are you looking for? I use either a peavey classic 30, or a marshall TSL602 for my sounds with either a 57 or re20. I can go from "and justice for all" to SRV to rancid...

AT3035 on vocals - 'Boxy' sounding??

Bingo. The mic is telling you...go try another room, it's stuffy in here! I use a pair of 4050's for vocals right now in a 50x60x20ft warehouse. Concrete ceiling floor and brick walls. I have what you might call a bit of a reflection problem. I set up two gobo's on both side of the mic, then...

Peluso 2247 Le or other vocal mic?

Has anyone used this mic?? Is it anything like the c12, or is a gimic piece of boat anchor junk? Looking for a vocal mic with a little more warmth than the 4050's I'm using now in the $1000-$2000 range. Thoughts are welcome...

    Hd24/24xr

The HD24 is 24 bit 48k analogue, while the HD24XR is 24bit 96k analogue. You can upgrade the HD24 to the 96k for $700 retail, or spend the $300 up front. I believe that you can use the HD24 at 96k with digital i/o. Side note, both recorders drop to 12 tracks at the higher sample rate.

drum micing with what I got? or another purchase

I would try a couple of things. First try the mk's in x/y with the 57 on kick and the 4050 for room. Another possibilty is the 4050 and a mk in m/s with the 57 on kick. Perhaps the mk's in that 2stick method described here (https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=39030) with the 57 on kick.

How many of you used speakers to supliment your moniters?

I use a set of kenwood's better monitors for cross reference from the mains. I also keep a small sony cd combo player nearby to check cd's on. Sometimes the AKG phones, but not too often.

Question about backing up hard drive on HD24

I bought my first hd24 and love it, but am glad I read this forum. I had to put it into service without having a good feel for the backup situation for my clients, and sorry to say, thanks for f*ing up for me:)! Now I am setting up a raid array for backup for me, and burn to dvd for the client...

    giving berry some props.

I usually find that polished turds always sound better with better gear! They don't smell better, but they do sound better. Personally I have bought tons of cheap f/x gear, only to replace it with the real deal, either a real room for reverb(god forbid it should be real) or a better unit due to...

Click track, What do you use.

Totally agree! Most of my clients prefer to use either eighth notes or sixteenth notes of a couple of bongos and an accent on 1. The quater notes are just too distracting.

Good question. I am not able to answer, but I am interested in the HD24 to replace my adat's. Did you try to contact Alesis?

    beginner drum mic'ing question

Anybody thought of gates? My snare mic's are usually used for punch and attack in most of my mix's, and are gated. The decay of a snare is quite quick, so I don't get HH in the mix there, and the OH (in Fig-8 or Card. depending on which room I use) pick up the room decay.

    A really really stupid question...

Could be worse.. you could have serious problems with spelling!!! (check out delema!) The only problems with long cables are interference with other lines nearby. As was mentioned eariler, balanced cables deal with this well, not so well with un-balanced. Try to keep your mic cables away from...

    Power Conditioning And Voltage

Anybody have any recommendations on a great, not good, but GREAT power conditioner? Experience counts here! Also, If you have the opportunity to run 220, as the equipment allows, is there any advantage beyond the obvious cost/amp savings? I have tons of 480 three phase and transformers just...

    Another Dilemma!!!!

O.K. so I posted a question about Hard Disk recorders, Now I am looking into also getting a tape machine!! Currently, the two in question are the Tascam ATR-80 with very low hours, or the Sony APR-24 with questionable hours. Does anyone have any experience with these?

    Hard Disk Delema

I found some Mackie's at about $1500, so with the firewire adapter for the Alesis, they are comparable in price point. I do like that I could work directly on tracks from the Mackie. Any idea's about the Tascam 2424, or the Mackie SDR24? I would like to have 32-48 tracks availble so I will be...
