Here in Canada, the Apex 420 is actually $50 cheaper than the NT1. And it comes with a hard cased and spider clip. Also has the previously mentioned Omni pattern switch, and a bass rolloff.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the response curve doesn't flatten out until...
Ok, I've read all these threads, and tons of reviews, and the most annoying thing is that they never seem to compare mics in a similar price range.
I don't care how a C1 compares to a U87 because I've never bought or used a U87, and barring a lottery win, don't expect to.
Can somebody who...
When I'm stuck, I fall back on the Elvis Costello method.
Whenever a clever phrase, line or image pops into my head I write it down in a book. When I'm writing and something is coming out forced or predictable, I go back to the book and look for pertinent lines or ideas.
Most of it never...
I just got a Apex 125, and while I'm sure there are better mics out there, I don't think there's a better value. It sounds alot like the D112, with a bit more of a boost in the 8-12K which makes it punchier and easy to use. Also, it only cost me $170 Cdn. Well worth it, and good sound when...
Well Guys,
I needed something for a session today, so after looking over the specs sheets I bought the Apex, (knowing I could return it if it didn't cut it). I'm keeping it. Didn't even go inside the shell. Left it on the hole in the front head and it sounded great. Was tracking direct...
Ok, small budget here, and I need a kick mic.
Torn between a D112 and an Apex 125.
Haven't seen much written on the Apex 125, but I've used the 112 before.
Has anyone used the Apex? Any good?
Also, I've been using a couple old 535 for vocals.
If upgrading, a C3000 vs NT1, what do you take?
Or...
Capokid,
Just got mine today. So far I'm thrilled. Bought it from Interstate Music for $799, and it cost $100 to ship to Canada, but it got here overnight. The manual's not as bad as everyone makes it seem, maybe they revised it. It's pretty intuitive, and the main draw for me was Adat...
Michael Phillip Wojewoda- He did Change of Hearts "Smile" and the Rheostatics "Whale Music" back to back in less than a month. Runner up would be Rick Rubin. The Cult, Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and Johnny Cash all did some of their best work with him.
As for Rundgren, I'm a fan, but I...
Piano is the easiest way to figure out the basic parts if you don't have any musical experience, just because it's completely linear. But in the words of Todd Rundgren "Just blow in it or bang on it until it makes the sound your looking for."
Lazyboy
Ness sings in his real voice, which adds to the honesty of the music.
I love voices like that. Paul Westerberg (The Replacements), Dave Pirner (Soul Asylum), and Tom Waits make me wish I'd taken up smoking.
I think most people who don't like Creed, like myself, find that the...
Alfugazi
The vocals sit much better in that song. It's probably a mix of the instrumental parts being a little more sparse, and the vocal reverb being shorter compared to the guitar. Some of the quieter lines still get a little lost though. You might want to consider inserting a...
Maffoo,
It could be a highly personal issue between 2 people, (like Brick by Ben Folds Five),
but if it can make you cry, it can probably make others cry.
My thought is that if it makes even 1 person who's not personally involved cry, it's a good song.
Jeff
Lee,
I listened to the first four songs, and here's what I thought.
1) The vocals need to be more consistent in volume. Use a compressor wisely and keep them louder in the mix. As is, the quieter lines get burried by the music, and the parts that are sung louder are sitting about right...
I too get a surge of adrenaline when I hear What If, and Woman From Tokyo.
Unfortunately, it usually culminates in me kicking in whatever stereo they're coming out of.
Great Post James HE!!!
You hit it on the head James.
I hated Pearl Jam until he stopped doing the Vedder.
It seems to me the Vedder is an attempt at primal anger, coming from the suburbs where the only anger experienced was your Mom refusing to by you the right sneakers.

Hey Rat's.
Don't worry about classifying it, the more you think about it, the less you feel it.
I call the Pixies the Pixies. Those who listen will understand. Frank Black followed his whims, much like we all should.
Jeff
btw Propaghandi is punk band but not in that "dude where's my car"...
Rats- Your the guy that said you had heard much of Joe Strummers stuff. You also were concerned with how to get disparate influences into a neat package. That's not necessary. You don't try to show all sides of your personality at the same time, and your music should be the same way...
Gidge, with regards to Creed, I don't doubt their conviction to the songs, but guys get a handle on the dynamics. With Arms Wide Open is a perfect example of a lyrically very tender song played with the subtlety of Michael Bolton with his hair on fire. Like a said earlier, a good song should...
Gmaj/min7???
Gmaj/min7??? That would mean a Gmajor triad with a min7, which we call G7.
If your refering to the chord with the major 3rd in the first octave and minor 3rd in the 2nd octave, like in Purple Haze, or Testify, that's a 7th#9.
Rats- If you think all Elvis Costello sounds the same, you probably haven't heard much of it.
And Joe Strummer was in this little band called the Clash before BAD or the Mescalleros.
Lastly, if you call yourself punk, you'll be one of the millions of misled who don't have a clue what...
