I made one, with 11" square plexiglass, covered with it with rubber place mats, then 1/4" of felt sides on both and covered in fleece. With a little thought and the right materials, they are easy and cheap to make.
Could someone post a part number or link to a supplier page for the 0.1 uf capacitors that are best for bypassing large electrolytics? Are they the same type used for power supply bypassing close to an op-amp?
This looks very easy to make, with point to point wiring on a perf board, following crazydocs layout. I'd just build two of these circuits for stereo. What are the best capacitors to use for the DC bypassing? I think I'll delete the diodes and the DC blocking capacitors, since I already have a...
I know this is an old thread, but I plan to build a portable pre-amp using the TI INA217 schematic. Using two 9v batteries (for a +9, -9 bi-polar power supply) will there be a DC offset problem if I omit the part of the circuit here? Also, along the same lines, can this circuit be modified to...
I'd like to congratulate Jon as well. I have had very good customer service from Jon and I think he has a bunch of great products.
Now if he would just design and sell a high quality microphone pre-amp that can be powered with (2) AA batteries and is the size of an Altoids tin and sells for...
BTW, I have a small number if the right size "screws" that are used to hold the Octava MC012 microphones together. It is very easy to "strip" the slot edges off the standard little screws. I bought some that are black and have a female hex head, so they don't break or strip. If anybody needs...
You have to screw the screws in, not out on this microphone.
Actually, by screwing them in (righty tighty) it separates the internal circuit board from the body. It's quite easy to screw them in too far, making the small screws fall into the circuit. Just be careful.
If you are carefull, you can open it up and have a look inside to see if there is something that is obviously wrong. There are a couple of small screws that you have to screw in, then the whole thing will come apart. It's not very complicated inside. I Dorsey modded a couple of them once.
Why haven't we heard a comparison recording of this microphone against any other well know microphone? I bought a pair of MSH-1A based on the guitar recording that was posted. I couldn't be happier with the purchase. I'd like to hear what this Karma mic sounds like too. I also wonder if they can...
Very cool. I like hearing about new, innovative ways to mic things.
I used to run sound for a band that had a B3 player with a full Leslie cabinet. We more or less permanently straped a hand truck to that B3 and never took it off, even for performances. This band played three nights/ week...
I don't think a mix/ master is complete until I listen through my Sennheiser HD600's (powered with a DIY PIMETA amp).
Headphones can reveal things that your average monitor can not. It's all relative. If you have $10,000 monitors (I don't) then maybe you don't need the cans. For $150 you can get...
A pop screen can also help get the talent to sing into the microphone from the proper distance. In general, you don't want lips on grill like many live rock and roll singers do. Position the pop screen far enough away that you don't hear the pops when that channel is soloed. Weird enough, having...
