yeah, but...
It's not really practical for me to spend a bit of money. :( It's either this, or a drum machine. I've done the drum machine thing for the past two years, and I'm tired of it.
All on one track. I guess I should have said that. It sounds good, and has a "live" feel. I guess I want to keep that live energy, but give it a more polished sound. I have a sample online now at:

It's the first file. Just a snippet of the song-in-progress.
I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice, because I'm new to this. I have experience in recording guitars and vocals, and doing some processing on those tracks, but this is the first time I've recorded drums.
So I have some decent drum recordings, but I want to touch them up a bit...
I've been using for a while, and I've had no problems with it. Of course, you get what you pay for... but I'm still a beginner, so it has all of the features that I need. It's good for the price.
I totally agree. I've been a SP fanatic for years, so I'm a big fan of Corgan's songwriting. And Jimmy Chamberlin is the fucking man... and Pajo rocks as well. But the mastering on the album kills it for me. What really bugs me though is that they're actually good songs... there was so much...
Ok, so I'm a beginner, but I understand what compression is all about. So my question is-- what's the opposite of compression? I mean, if compression can squeeze all of the sound into the top 10 decibels, then is there something that can sort of make the volume range more spread out? I don't...
I'm still somewhat of a beginner at home recording, but I'm a huge SP fan and I've recorded some Pumpkiny stuff... so maybe I can help.
Just the basics-- it helps to pan the tracks so that they're spread out around the listener. Also, you should be using a drummer or at least a drum machine...
Re: Thanks
Wow, weird... I was listening to a live version of this song while I read your post. The version that I'm listening to is by Papa M (David Pajo) from a concert that I bootlegged in January. I rarely listen to it, and I rarely read posts that mention bluegrass (no offense :p). So...
TripleM... yeah, I know what you mean about the distortion. :) It sounded good when I played it... but when I recorded it and layered a few rhythm guitars on top of eachother, it came out very fuzzy. I kinda like it anyway, but I can see why it would bug some people.
I'm using Fruityloops for...
crawdad, I'll say one last thing on the tuning issue... as embarrassing as this is, I don't think I even owned a tuner when I recorded those songs. In fact, I know I didn't. :p Since I record onto my computer, I had some computer program that worked as a tuner... but it wasn't very good. I...
Well thanks for the reply... heh. I realize now that some of my recordings are out of tune. These are all from a few months ago, when my ears weren't as sensitive I guess. But I'm starting to notice it. It doesn't bother me to the point where I have to turn it off though. :)
Thanks for the...
I'm sorta hesitant to post this, because I'm still kinda new at this stuff... but here goes. I've been playing guitar for about two years now, and this is what I've been able to come up with so far... it's like an EP I guess.

I'm just a one-man band...
I play a Yamaha EG112... I think it's the same thing as the Pacifica 112, but it came out before the "Pacifica" name was used. I love it. It has been my first guitar though, so I don't really have much to compare it too. But it makes a great learner guitar! In about a month, I'm going to...
by the way yes I did try it out at the store, and it sounded nice to me. But since I'm still a beginner, everything sounds good to me! That makes it tough to make a decision.
I'm on a budget, but I've been looking to upgrade from my Yamaha EG112 (I think it's the same as the Pacifica 112). It has been a great learner guitar over the past two years, but the pickups have become noisy... and I figure that if I'm going to spend money to replace the pickups... well, I...
I'm somewhat of a beginner at guitar playing... I've been playing for about two years, and I have very basic beginner's gear. But now that I sort of know what I'm doing, I think it's time for an upgrade.
I've been playing on a Yamaha EG112. It's your basic strat copy with a H/S/S pickup...
Just to follow up (in case anybody is curious)...
I wound up getting the SM58, and I love it! It feels very durable, and I'm sure it'll last forever. The guy that I bought it from (not the same guy who tried to talk me into the AKG) said that he has been using a SM58 for the past fifteen...
Thanks for the comments, everybody! I can't really try them out in the store, so that's why I was asking here. And even if I could try them out, I wouldn't really know what to listen for.
So, I went to the guitar store today, looking for a decent all-purpose microphone. I'm still a beginner at this stuff. I want something that I could use for vocals and acoustic/electric guitar (sometimes clean, sometimes distorted) at home, and maybe live for vocals sometime.
I went in to...
