    My first attempts at recording...

You should take a CD of a band which production you like and listen to what's different compared to your stuff. Then experiment with your mix to get it to sound more like the commercial CD. Keijo

    Over compressed?

I don't think it's overcompressed, it sounds more like it's a bit heavy on the lows tho (guits and bass). IMO anyway, Keijo

    Studio Setup...

I compress everything a bit when going in (about 2:1) to keep the levels hot and keep them from clipping. Keijo

    bad phonecall

Hehe on thing that helps with the band is this scenario: You tweak the compressor a bit (and the waves C1 loooks pretty impressive on the screen :)) So one of the band members usually goes: "What are you doing now?" You put ur "veryprofessionalmixerface" on and say: "I'm tweaking the compressor...

    Question on vocals... again

A lot of vocalists (especially the ones starting) are shy of their voice and think that they cann't sing but really they can. So even if they nail a great take they still think it's crap, because they did it. That's why it's great to have someone else record it so they can objectively give you...

    bad phonecall

Of course you have to take to account what the band thinks when mixing, but usualliy it is like this: The bass player comes back from the toilet: MORE BASS DUDE!!! The guitarist: MHHHH I played a very cool noodle here and I cann't hear it anymore... Crank it up man. Then the drummer says...

    My first attempts at recording...

I agree that you need to spread out the mix. Everything is panned dead center and eating space from one another. All recorded things (guits, vox) sound a bit muddy. And one thing that especially bothers me (as a guitar player) is the guitar tone, you can clearly hear it's played directly to the...

Using a homestereo amp with Tannoy reveal speakers

Yes you learn something every day. I knew that the amp would start to distort on high loads, but I didn't know it could damage the speakers. Keijo

APSLIVE 1.84 DRIVER for SB Live--yuck!

I attached a file of the screenshot of how I have set up the "red beast" :). This way U can use 1+2 as the outputs and the inputs as inputs. I have never needed to change the settings works everywhere. And to save the settings you have to close the app (not minimize) once and the next time you...

Track Counts with a single 7200 rpm HD

I think ATA100 HDD should have about 100 mps. My ATA66 has 54 mps with 10% cpu usage. You need the bus mastering drivers that come with your motherboard, if it's VIA chipset based you need to install VIA 4-in-1 drivers, if it's intel based you need the Intel Ultra ATA100 drivers. Keijo

APSLIVE 1.84 DRIVER for SB Live--yuck!

Yes :) Been using them from the day they came out, no problem whatsoever. Why are MIDI and latency in the same sentence? MIDI has nothing to do with latency. I'd rather have an enema than go back to that interface for games that was meant for project studio user aswell.. BLAH! Keijo

Using a homestereo amp with Tannoy reveal speakers

Isn't it the other way round? :) Well THEORETICALLY you could use the yamaha to drive the Tannoys, but be sure to set all the treble/bass settings to 0 and disable any bass boost/megabass/uh-oh settings so you won't color the monitors or they will be kind of pointless. Keijo
