best stereo mic for irish folk (no amps!)

Have a look at this for ideas on setting them up: http://www.dpamicrophones.com/ http://www.tape.com/Bartlett_Articles/stereo_microphone_techniques.html Let us know how you get on Leo, if it turns out well stick up an mp3 :)

TO CHESSROCK 13 Colonies "A Change Comes"

Hi Spork, I would definitely try out the Mk-012 on vox, with two pop filters as I think Chessrock has recommended in the past. It should be a step up from the shures. Padddy

    Power supply problem

The hand written notes may well be wrong. .3A is indeed the current recommended in the data sheet however it would be impossible to get this current with a 45ohm resistor and 10V transformer. The original design must have been underheated. With a 10V transformer and 45 ohm resistor we need 82mA...

    Power supply problem

Hi Phil, Havn't built one but it a fine and simple design, I would probably add a 100nF cap at the output of that regulator as they can be noisy. 5mA is much too small for the heater current - if you're supposed to drop 3.7V on the 45ohm resistor the current should be 82mA - check with the...

best stereo mic for irish folk (no amps!)

Hi Leo, If I lived in germany I would get this: http://www.thomann.de/index.html?partner_id=97926&page=thoiw6_the_tbone_sc100ii_stereoset_prodinfo.html It would be almost impossible to beat that deal and if you don't like them you can always send them back. Edit: Sorry gave you the Irish link...

    Rate my Purchases

I second the vote for the B1 + VTB1 again not the best for vocals but great starter mic - the windscreen is not a good substitute for a pop filter it is too thick, attentuates the high frequencies and makes the mic sound 'boxy'.

    Power supply problem

Is the voltage dropping to at the transformer too? couple of suggestions: maybe you don't have enough current available in transformer, maybe the filament is shorted (check with ohmmeter) maybe resistor is 4.5ohms (long shot :) ) You could always stick a regulator in there for the heater...

    M69TG & M400 (soundstar mkII)

So finally got to try out the X1 properly, very nice sound on guitar and my vocals. Going to try it on fiddle during the week. The switch is a bit dodgy - I might wire it into one position - not too sure how to get it out without breaking it though. My M88 never arrived, it was sent registered...

    V67g mods anyone?

Its a fairly simple soldering job, I wouldn't hesitate in ordering from cinemag, you can pay with paypal and the postage is really quite cheap. Because you are eliminating the middle man the prices are very good, I doubt you could find better in australia. I havn't had a chance to use my...

    V67g mods anyone?

The laminations you need are an odd size and good quality laminations are usually only available in large quantities, in fact heres a quote: Some people have been successful in ordering small quantities as 'samples. It would probably be as easy to order a transformer from cinemag - just tell...

    V67g mods anyone?

I know the 2001 had a crappy transformer but I thought Brent spec'd a reasonably decent transformer for the V67?

    quick advice request

I'd get a DMP3 and *if* you need a small mixer get a yamaha MG 10/2 - that way you have both for about the same price. I don't think the price dividend for the mackiegear is justified.

    V67g mods anyone?

Most mic upgrades involve changing the capacitors in the signal path or transformer but these are already a fairly decent standard in the V67

how easy is it to sell stuff on ebay?

Yeah Coolcat, Don't keep money in paypal - withdraw it to you bank when you receive it. If you need to make a refund you can do it on your own terms. Paypal have a shoot first ask questions later policy and are known to freeze your account and any funds in it when a complaint is made. That...
