    A few questions regarding Pre`s.

The SansAmp and The Brick are both excellent choices. You may also want to look into an M-Audio Tampa...I've had good results using its DI.

Poll:Listening pleasure, which is 1st choice?

For mixing and anything that needs critical listening, monitors are the way to go. But, personally, I like headphones when I'm just listening for enjoyment.

    threshold

try a search if you'd like. the best answers will come from your own experiments and experience. and threshold and ratio are both dependant on too many factors.

    digital doubling guitar tracks......

like everyone else, i prefer to record it twice. but if for some reason i decide not to, i will go into the audio editor and zoom in as far as i have to so that i can manually line the two tracks up to be in phase with each other.

    Studio equipment list...

I don't know why you would get one pair of monitors for mixing demos and a different pair for mixing albums. If you want to test the way a mix sounds on different monitors, then that's one thing. But, to not use the ADAM monitors just because it's not a full-length cd doesn't make much sense...

    guitar micing............

if you have $250 to spend, you might as well spend $90 on an SM57 and use the rest for an LDC (maybe an Audio Technica AT2020)

    Which overheads for drums?

If i were you, i'd get a matched pair of Josephson C42 mics. a matched pair runs around $900. and the single, non-matched run at about $400 each.

    Do I NEED bass absorption?

i think it all depends on how seriously you're wanting to take it. if you just want to roll of the low-end to get rid of the low end, then that would work to some extent. i have bass traps. i LOVE my bass traps. i think they're the best purchase i've made. but, my mixing involves much more...

    EQ'ing synths

i rarely have to EQ my synths much at all other than just to fit them into the context of the song. the sounds are created to sound as good as possible from the start. but, if certain frequency are stepping all over each other, then it would be a good idea to try to get some of them out of the...

What Soundcards can record 8 tracks simultaneously?

Delta 1010....but, buying 8 channels of preamps (and the cables) in addition to this can start to become a little expensive.

    Poll: Best soundcard brand

My vote goes to M-Audio. The Delta 1010 is a great unit for the money.

    Monitor Isolation Pads

every condensor mic i've ever bought came with some kind of foam padding in the box or case. i just grabbed the foam out of my C1000s cases (since those mics never get touched anyway) and it seems to do a good job.
