    My new band...HEAVY,need outside opinions

Not bad. . . . . . actually I'd have to say that the drumming is better than "not bad," at least in terms of making a switch from guitar. Sure there are things to fix, but I think the job is passable. I mean, I can't imagine switching instruments like that. Not at all. I won't repeat in...

Re: Re: Re: Re: This piece is very cool! Check your PMs for the link. Looks like the lite version comes with 7 CD-ROMs. If you upgrade later on, you return these 7 discs in exchange for the full 20 (or the DVDs). Oh, I just noticed that the lite version is also available in a SoundFonts...

Re: Re: This piece is very cool! I'm starting to sound like a Symphonic Strings pusher  , but just so you know there is a Mini version of the library for half the price. And they have a deal where you can upgrade to the full version later by simply paying the remaining $500. So if...

You're right, Pedullist, about the soundtracks thing. The first sample on that page I referred to is (quoting from the website) "A dramatic clip from John Nordstrom's score to 'Prince William' the movie, first airing Sunday, September 29, 2002 on ABC." Very impressive sounds, like I (and you)...

This piece is very cool! Awesome! I agree with the others about the Elfman-esque quality. Very nice. Have you heard of Symphonic Strings? If not, it's an incredible sample library of string sounds and stuff for Gigasampler, and IMO it would be the perfect tool for this piece. 20 CD-ROMs...

First post after HOW many years?!?!?

Nice job! Hey DaveO, I don't know if I really have a right to comment, seeing as I have yet to post any material myself, but I seem to remember somebody saying that if you listen to a tune in the Clinic you should at least acknowledge it. So here goes. I really liked this song. Reminds me a...

    Hey acidrock

If I get a free minute and can get my axes together, I'll bum my wife's digital camera and digitally immortalize my pantheon. And yes, it's nothing but cheap. :D

    Hey acidrock

https://homerecording.com/bbs/attachment.php?postid=724039 Hey acidrock, you have a bashful guitar! There's an instrument hiding behind the acoustic with the cutaway, partly in front of the red bass. So fess up — what is it and why is it avoiding the camera, eh? :D (This question was...

    Godin Guitars

Are you talking about ordering from Godin direct? And where do you find the list prices? I don't see them posted anywhere at Godin's site.

Buy a $1000 Guitar, yea right.....

Sorry to semi-hijack this thread, but sometimes ya just gotta: from www.allmusic.com BTW, the site notes that he is AKA Stephen Paul.

    Marshall plexi?

Hey Boots, thanks for the links. I actually have the ax84 site marked as a favorite. I've been in touch with Chris Hurley, the guy who runs that site and its sister site, Doberman Amps. It's not so much that I'm not interested in building my own amp — actually I think it would be tres cool —...

    Marshall plexi?

TH, I read about the Pete Townshend thing. Seems he wanted Marshall to build him an 8x12 for more power, but the cabinet would have been too heavy to move easily. So Marshall opted for two 4x12s that could be stacked one atop the other. And thus history was made, eh? BTW, I realize I don't...

    Marshall plexi?

More good info to have. Thanks, y'all. I've gotta find out more about tube amps. I've never owned or played one, but I'm really chompin' at the bit to get myself a good low wattage tube amp. So many of the boutique amps bill themselves as being "like a plexi" that I just had to figure out...

    Marshall plexi?

Ah, I see! And then they changed it to something else later, I take it. Interesting. So was there something in particular about the plexis that made/make them desirable to own?

    Marshall plexi?

Okay, here I go a'swingin' my ignorance bucket around, sloppin' it all over the ground: What does the word "plexi" refer to when discussing Marshall amps? I see it all the time but I've never understood what it means. I can't even say that I've ever played a Marshall, actually, and both these...

    Finger pickers.

Definitely check Stefan Grossman out. And if you're really into finger-picked guitar, check out John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, and Pentangle. Pentangle was Renbourn and Jansch's group, and Renbourn has collaborated with Grossman and several other great players. Oh, and don't forget Ian Anderson...

    charger's riff

I'm with Lopp It's very smooth, very quick. I have a hard time describing it, but it's sort of like the notes "bounced" off the fretboard or something. Very impressive.

    The perfect amp

Couldn't get the link to work, dude. Sounds interesting, though.

    Low wattage tube amp

Thanks for the info, kartikbala. If I went with one of their amps, I would probably just buy the pre-assembled Hi-Octane version from the Doberman Music site (both sites are run by a guy names Chris Hurley), since I don't have the time to build my own. And you're right about their tone, too...

    Low wattage tube amp

Well, I checked out several of the amps youse have mentioned. The Carvin is nice but not dirty enough for me (at least based on their sound samples). Of the ones listed so far I really like the THD Univalve, so maybe that's what I'll save toward. Anyone own one to give a testimonial, eh...
