    Input Level Issue

But the output of the Behringer preamp is still analog. I'm sending that into another analog input, the AW1600 channel input, that has it's own input preamp. So I'm dealing with 2 separate amplifiers that must both be contributing noise. I would prefer not to have to crank both of them up. Will...

    Input Level Issue

I didn't know I could go that low without incurring significant signal to noise penalties. I had been just using the pres on the 1600 until I got this straightened out. I'll try switching to +4 and running at a lower input level and see what happens.

    Input Level Issue

I've been having trouble getting good input level from my Behringer Ultragain pre into my Yamaha AW1600 DAW. Using both a condenser and a dynamic mic I have to crank the Behringer almost all the way up and still use a good bit of gain on the 1600 channel to get close to a -6 inut level. Would...

I got a a multitrack cassete recorder from a friend I helped move

When I upgraded from a Tascam 488 cassette multitracker to a Yamaha AW1600 DAW I found that the 488 was far easier to use and understand what was happening. I was playing with it (the 1600) so infrequently that I had to relearn the damn thing every time I used it, which caused me to not want to...

How much money do you have invested in your studio?

I figure I've spent right around $10500, which includes about $4000 in instruments. Of course, that cost was stretched out over 20 years or so and includes a few things I no longer have or use. Also, some of the stuff was originally purchased for stage use but is now being used in my studio. I'd...

    Noise gate doesn't always work?

If your noise gate is also a compressor with side chain inputs and you have access to a decent equalizer you could try a de-esser setup and try to notch out the frequencies of the clicks. Might help a little bit ...

What do I need to get and what do I need to set up? please help!

The mixer has phantom power but you'll need balanced XLR female to XLR male cables to use it. So get 2 of those, connect the mics to the mixer's XLR inputs, and then run the main outs from the mixer to the line inputs on the Pod Studio.

    Phantom Power

I'm going to give that a try. Hopefully I can figure out why the Behringer needs to be cranked so high to get decent levels because that setup would be ideal.

    Phantom Power

Steenamaroo ... point well taken. Agreed, the dbx manual is basically worthless, quite possibly the least useful one I have. The only reason I bought the thing in the first place was to replace the Alesis 3630 my wife wanted back for the home theater. I had reclaimed it when I started setting...

I wish I had the 2400. Inserts would be nice, as would the extra tracks ...

    Phantom Power

I have to say, the manual that came with the ultragain is one of the best I've seen. I've had this ultragain for several years but had never used it (I wasn't using any of my gear for awhile). It's possible it's bad. The tube glows for what that's worth ... I have a CXR Telcom 702 test set and...

    Phantom Power

Grimtraveller, to answer your question, I was using XLR/XLR cables from the mic into the Ultragain and XLR/XLR cables out of the Ultragain to the AW1600 channel inputs. You're saying that it works better to use an XLR to 1/4" from the Ultragain to the channel inputs? I'm going to try this...

    Phantom Power

I appreciate the input, but please don't assume I'm an idiot just because I was unclear about what kind of inputs the dbx unit had. My question was unit specific and does not mean that I don't inderstand signal flow. My confusion arose because the thing has XLR inputs and outputs as well as TRS...

    Phantom Power

I had the mics running through the dbx (the condenser was running on battery) and I had plenty of gain into the AW1600. It actually sounded good, quiet, and appeared to be working. The only reason I did that was because my Behringer Ultragain Pro 2200 mic preamp was not giving me enough gain...

    Phantom Power

Possibly a stupid question but I have to ask. I recently bought a dbx 266xs. I am running an SM58 and an AKG C1000S directly into it's xlr inputs. I have the xlr outputs going into a Yamaha AW1600. Now to the question: Can phantom power from the AW1600 damage this dbx unit with it connected this...
