    Weird mixer problem

Are you sure the highs reappeared in the PA and not just the monitors, i.e. the main PA amp or cabinets are not delivering highs due to a amp, speaker or crossover fault? If you connect the mains through the aux sends, are the highs there? Does it make a difference whether you are using a pre...

    What makes a good bridge?

I think the bridge is more like: (Coming from the final C of the chorus before it) C D/B Bb D/A G Bb A7 D into verse changes for solo The tune up until the bridge is solidly in C C in the I chord Am is the VI chord Em is the III chord G7 is the V chord There are a couple F chords too...

    What makes a good bridge?

I think of bridges as typically creating tension or releasing tension, depending on what the song does in its verses and choruses. It might create tension by pedaling a bottom note under chord changes or pedal a chord throughout, or it might release by moving through easily resolving chords...

Bass Amps, Speaker cables, ohms, etc...

I think you misunderstood me. I said: 'A 100w bass head isn't going to fry the tweeter in a 600w PA cabinet, right?' Meaning a cabinet rated for 600 watts. My point is about driving cabinets with more power than they're rated vs. driving cabinets that are rated at enough power to handle the amp.

Bass Amps, Speaker cables, ohms, etc...

Farview, aren't you still just talking about driving a speaker cabinet with an amp that's too powerful? Tweeters are often low-power, not expecting to see much (after a crossover), so if you overpower a cabinet, the tweeter could easily be the first thing to suffer. A 100w bass head isn't going...

Bass Amps, Speaker cables, ohms, etc...

Most bass amps I've heard favor low-end not high-end. Of course there are amp/speaker combinations that put out brittle highs. But can the highs a bass amp puts out really be drastically more than the highs a PA puts out with keys, vocals and guitars? I would expect to see that on average PA...

Bass Amps, Speaker cables, ohms, etc...

Why are you worried about this? Surely the PA speaker has a crossover for the tweeter like a bass cabinet would. A tweeter doesn't want the full audio range in a PA, keyboard or bass cabinet. If you run the bass through the PA, and crank it into the PA speakers, the tweeter won't blow up. If the...

    RNC outs TS/TRS balanced/unbalanced

The RNC input jack are TRS, but it's to facilitate send and return with a simple TRS cable from an insert conection on a console. So sending a balanced signal would be bad as one leg of the signal would be encountering the output of the RNC. I suspect the output jacks are simple TS jacks making...

How to split audio output from keyboard to two destinations?

What's the actual problem? Are you getting sound, but not stereo, or are you getting no sound somewhere? If you have mono sound, have you panned each mixer input hard to its left or right accordingly? Have you confirmed that signal comes out of each of the Y cables' ends by connecting only one...

Aphex Punch Factory 1404 Trim Pots

Got An Answer Aphex responded to my second email, saying: The manual says the ratio is 3.7:1. As for phantom on mine, I just got it back home, finally removed the velcro strips the previous owner had stuck on, and there on the back it says that phantom is not recommended. Mine also doesn't...

    In Ear Monitoring

In general I've had good experiences with in-ear monitoring. I think there are two main issues to consider: How much sound they block and how practical it is to get what you need in them. I've used a variety of cheap in-ear headphones that don't block sound effectively, so you often need to...

Aphex Punch Factory 1404 Trim Pots

Yeah, I will post their reply. I also asked about the phantom. The manual says that units after Feb 2004 can use phantom. Mine's PC board is copyrighted 2004, but if I use phantom, I hear a little fuzz noise every time the LED meter changes. External 9V works fine. I thought mine displays only a...

Aphex Punch Factory 1404 Trim Pots

Does anyone know what the two trim pots inside the Aphex Punch Factory pedal do? They are VR1 & 2. I found them while trying to clean the switches and pots. They are pretty well buried inside, so I decided they may not be intended for user tweaking, rather for calibration. The pedal uses a photo...

    so nobody uses Sonar?

I'm using version 4 fairly happily now. Will upgrading to 7 make better sounding mixes, i.e. are there better algorithms or processing, or are the improvements just along the lines of tools, automation, inserts, etc. (of which there seem to be many)?

    Firebox problems with CPU

If everything used to work before an ATI driver update, and your ATI chip is integrated in the motherboard, you may find older drivers on your computer manufacturer's web site. However, if it's a known compatibility issue, I wouldn't necessarily expect this to work.

    SPDIF capable preamps

I love my dbx 386 stereo tube preamp with analog out and S/PDIF out. It has a word clock connection too. It has mic/line and hi-z instrument in's on each channel. Digital out (16,20,24-bit/44.1,48,88.2/96kHz) features dbx's special process (can't remember the name) that it supposed to simulate...

    Terabyte drive

Make Backups! I'd be very wary of cutting-edge drives, i.e. largest drives on the market, from anyone. While convenient and relatively cheap, I would make sure you have a backup of anyting you care about - well, I'd say that for any size drive, actually. Buy 2 if they're cheap and mirror your...

Connecting monitors and headphones to soundcard

If you want to avoid the mixer, try: Presonus HP4 ~$99 http://presonus.com/products/Detail.aspx?ProductId=20 It's great. 4 headphones and a monitor out w/level and mute. I feed mine from my little mixer, or directly from the soundcard when I'm using the mixer for input (only one buss).

    Soundcraft Spirit Folio 4

Isn't the Spirit 8 a 40-channel (or something big) large-venue console? The Folio 4 was the only other Soundcraft board I could find in the price range that had at least a 4-buss config.

Tube amp ~ Switching cab's on standby?

On the Ampegs, and pretty much anything else I've looked at, the power amps do sit at 'full power' all the time - it's just a matter of whether or not you are asking them to do anything. What's varied is the amount of signal fed into them. With no signal to modulate the DC voltage on the power...
