Does more tracks = Lush recordings? Whats the trick?

Being a good producer will help. Know when, where and why to embellish certain parts of a song, with any little inflections you think need to be put in. Isaiah

    Learning to sing well

Drink Red Bull.......mmmmm-yummy...it gives you wings. I'm half-joking, but I guess I was born gifted, so I can't really offer any advice for a better technique. :p Isaiah

    New Peavy studio mics

Peavey.... ::shudders:: I've never had a good experience with any piece of equipment that had "Peavey" written on it. Isaiah

Listen here: Female vocals recorded using a Studio Projects C1

Major motion picture, eh? What might that be? Isaiah

Another test for your ears...guess which vocal mic we used on these songs.

How many of you got the hi-fi version? It sounded fine to me... I'm not sure about the mic... I'll guess something by Marshall - one of their cheaper LD mics, like the MXL2001. No idea, though. Isaiah

    Beheringer B-2

Go for the C-1... I don't entirely trust Behringer, although several people say that the B-2 is the NT2 in a different body, and I do like the NT2, but I haven't been able to confirm any validity towards the B-2/NT2 thing I've been hearing... as for the AT3035, I'd stay away from it. I checked...

Gidge... where can I get a V67 for $149? Isaiah

    Beheringer B-2

I was really unimpressed with the AT 3035, both in sound and in aesthetics... I did like the KSM32 and the RODE NT1000, though. Isaiah

    Langevin CR3A mic....

I really like the Shure line of mics.. I tested the KSM32 at my local GC and I fell in love with it... too bad I can't afford it... I'm wondering if this new KSM27 will stand up to them. Isaiah

mxl 603 vs beyerdynamic opus53 vs earthworks sr77 vs schoeps m221b

I didn't download all the samples, but I seem to like the Earthworks a lot... The Schoeps sounded good to me, too. The 603s did a nice job, but it sounded less controlled to me, whereas the Earthworks almost sounded like they had a hint of compression...really smooth sound. Isaiah

Good Drum Kit for under $700 (cymbals not included)

My friend's dad has a vintage Ludwig kit (and some vintage Zildjian cymbals that sound unbelievable)...I really like the kit overall...the snare is really nice, but it doesn't have the kind of sound I'd want in a kit...it doesn't sound rock & roll-ish enough...more like a marching band kinda...

    2 603's a cheap-ass sigma and a couple'a foam baffles

I monitored it on my 30+ year old Sony hi-fi speakers with no EQ. They are surprisingly flat with lots of range...but I want to get some actual monitors some day...probably Reveals or 20/20s. As far as speakers go, though, I love these old ones because they're so flat. Isaiah

12 microphones testet, please download the file`s

At the very least, give us something like a 256kbps MP3...no way in hell I'm downloading a file that size! Isaiah

    2 603's a cheap-ass sigma and a couple'a foam baffles

I think it is a matter of preference. I do indeed like the "live sound" on occassion, but I would far rather use the baffles for recording a guitar part in a mix. Isaiah

    2 603's a cheap-ass sigma and a couple'a foam baffles

Sweet! Night & day... I really liked the 2nd one. How did you build your baffles? What did you use for framing? I'd like some details. Isaiah

Beef up track with string section?

Get ahold of a local youth orchestra. :D Actually my sisters used to play in a youth symphony and they sounded amazing...(they even did a performance of the Firebird Suite which was awesome) If you pulled it off, they may very well do it for free...if there is any such orchestra in your...

    favorite tom mic?

I guess it depends on the sound you want, but as a general rule of thumb: SM57s work well for the money, and although MD421s cost quite a bit more, I would choose them because they simply sound fantastic on toms. Isaiah

Is it the engineering, or the drums?

Agreed, Ametth... even the best Yamaha kits ($5,000+) don't sound all that great, although they are fun to play and wouldn't make noise to make your household members complain. I prefer traditional stuff over electronic stuff any day! Isaiah
