Signal Patching in Yamaha MG10/2 - Monitor Mix?

In the process of setting up a new DAW, trying to figure out how to get a monitor mix out of my Yamaha mixer. I'm using powered Alesis M1s, which means twin mono cable ins to the speakers. Problem is, the Yamaha pre-fader bus goes to a single-port stereo cable out. Is there some sort of...

Cubasis routing for multitrack overdub monitoring

Mixer Aah . . . you're referring to the software mixer, I guess (in my case the e-mu software). I had not thought of that at all. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Cubasis routing for multitrack overdub monitoring

Silly newbie question, which I know has been answered previously, but I couldn't find it . . . I'm using Cubasis (waiting to learn the basics before I drop the big bucks), running my signal through a mixer to an EMU 1212. I'm trying to overdub audio, but each time I record a new track, the...

    why people build studios

My two cents . . . I'm currently working to set up a relatively simple home studio - just bedroom stuff, but still a substantial portion of my current cashflow and time are going into it. Though I must admit i've found myself getting somewhat sucked into the process of assembling gear...

Monitor Question: So basic, you might laugh . . .

I'm about to take the step up from running my production through consumer-grade speakers to some actual pro monitors. My question is, if I buy powered monitors, what will I need to route a signal to them? I'll be working with a computer production setup with analog outs - can I plug 'em...

    E-MU 1212 Setup problem

Got an answer . . . As stated above, the 4-track is line-level, so it technically shouldn't need pre-amps. But I've corresponded with E-Mu and they've let me know that I just need to insert a Trim function on the e-mixer. I'll give it a try. The E-Mu rep's explanation was that they made sure...

    E-MU 1212 Setup problem

I'm coming to you hat in hand . . . I've just finished setting up a new machine with the intention of moving up from 4-tracking to full-on digital recording. I bought the e-mu 1212 and have been messing around with the copy of Cubasis they included with it. The outputs for the card work fine...

What is a good setup for someone looking to get into beatmaking??

I've had the roland sp808 for years and I can definitely recommend it at its current ebay price of roughly $300. One warning, the pads are NOT velocity sensitive, so if you're looking to do some serious RJD2/Pete Rock style chopping, it'll be tough. Otherwise, this thing plus a turntable and...

Should I buy this? To make beats on?? What else would I need??

I recently bought this unit, but I haven't started using it yet. I can tell you a couple of things - the keys are fairly small, so if you've got gorilla fingers watch out. The pads are velocity sensitive, which automatically makes it a step up from my Roland SP-808, but they still won't feel...

    GarageBand Software...for the PC?

I've seen garageband briefly and, at the risk of sounding like an elitist, it looked like audio work with training wheels. Maybe I would say the same thing about Acid, and I definitely used to say that about my brother's Fruityloops stuff - something about not seeing the actual wavform. Just...

    ableton live/ harddrive question

I'm not an authority, but I think once the experts weigh in you'll be getting a lot of "No Way"s. USB, even 2.0, isn't fast enough to handle recording, much less the digital muggery that I would imagine Live pulls. The best way to go will always be internal or, failing that, firewire.

how do you afford all of those preamps when multitrack recording?

I may be confused, but . . . I'm a relative newbie, but I thought the whole point of having all those preamps was to allow you to record tracks to HD individually. The Behringer goes to ADAT, which means if you have an ADAT in on your card you can put things individually to HD, then mess with...
