    Broken Toy

Another thumbs up here. Really good song, good recording - 3 minutes? Very modest, maybe too modest. An intro would be good here, something to get your attention before the vocals come in. Also I think the reverb on the vocals makes them a bit too remote. You've a nice voice (assuming it is your...

    Antedote by The Demure

Yes, the Guitars sound too loud in stereo - I'm no sound engineer but if they sound right in mono I wouldn't lower them or you'll be losing power for those not listening on phones. Maybe try keeping them central and spread them with reverb or a stereo enhancer? Everything sounds good to me and...

Ears needed please! Come So Low

Thanks for your comments guys. I'm a little confused by the conflicting vocals comments. The verse vocals are probably higher in the mix and sharper than the chorus vocals so I'm guessing its the chorus vocals that need a bit more clarity. I'll play with the reverb & eq. Cheers

Please listen and compare (Christian Song)Thanks!

This is without question the cheesiest song I've ever heard in my life! It makes Cliff Richard look like Marlyn Manson - I can't wait for the video! Seriously though the song is well put together, arranged and produced if a tad formulaic for my tastes (I can't believe you didn't put in a key...

Best Monitor System for Tiny Studio

The eq hasn't moved off 0 since I got them - Before i bought them I thought I might need to compensate for my room acoustics - I guess 'cos the're nearfield the room acoustics are'nt an issue. - Except perhaps at louder volumes

Ears needed please! Come So Low

This mix is killing me (I need your help!)

Not my genre but to my ears it gets really good at 3.42. Unfortunately thats 20 seconds from the end and I think you've lost us by then! I'd agree with the guitars too loud comment and I can't really make out the bass a lot of the time.

    Chasing Cars Cover

I guess it depends on your purposes. I thought it would make an interesting poll though: Faithful cover or new interpretation, so I posted one in the Songwriting, etc. forum.

    Covers: Faithful or Interpretation

This question comes from a discussion on another forum regarding the right approach to doing a cover version. I know it depends on your purposes so the question isn't how best to cover a song, the question is what do you prefer to hear: a faithful cover, well performed and true to the original...

    building a wooden shed/studio

Fair Point. I didn't know a 3 leaf structure is not desirable. Maybe you can let us know why? I don't think the drum effect is a myth - sound will vibrate with parallel surfaces at certain frequencies - no doubt about it. I wasn't recommending a window, just outlining how you might do it and...

    Chasing Cars Cover

In that case you deserve credit for good musicianship and recording quality. It's a personal view and I'm sure it's the mix, not the version, that you were looking for comments on but I believe that if an act has made a song famous you can't compete with the original version by trying to...

    Chasing Cars Cover

It probably doesn't help that I don't really rate this song but this version certainly doesn't work for me. I like the guitars kicking in at the end but your listeners have made up their minds way before that. For me it sounds as if all but bass and vocals are midi/keyboards and for this song...

What file format is best for Live Performances? Please read!

I totally agree and I wasn't suggesting the audience would be too drunk to notice! I believe that if you did the "Pepsi Challange" and played an aiff and an mp3 one after the other in even the quietest venue, even a musician with a good ear wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I think most...

    Recording tracks..What first?

If you have the song written, start to finish, do a guide track to the time of a metronome (integral to the recording software) or click track. A guide track is a track that won't appear in the final mix, usually consisting of the vocals crudely recorded with acoustic or piano accompaniment and...

    Drummer's perspective, or audiences?

You'd have to put in a bit of out-of-tune, wrong lyric singing in the foreground to get it bang on though!

What file format is best for Live Performances? Please read!

To get back to the question... 1. Whatever you're most comfortable with 2. No. "when it comes to live playback" your audience won't be able to tell the difference. 3. Tell him you need a sound check. I found that using my laptop I got better results than when I used an mp3 player and maybe...

    building a wooden shed/studio

If cost isn't a big factor I wouldn't design it for your 35dB. What if in a couple of years you want live drums in there, or a full band? How you build it depends on where you are. You can get the same acoustic separation using timber, blockwork or concrete construction but costs will vary...
