    MIM vs MIA Strats

    I have an early 90's Squire, and now an American Standard, and I can very easily see the difference (primarily in electronics). We can all justify our guitars. The bottom line is play what feels most comfortable. One guy might like Epiphones more than Gibsons (because he has a bunch of...

    MIM vs MIA Strats

    Well, after lusting after a MIA Stratocaster... I just bought one (for $599.00!!)! Today. Nothing against MIM's at all though. I have what is turning out to be a rather extensive collection of guitars and the two gaping holes for me are the MIA Strat and Tele. I don't have the Tele yet (but...

    Fostex X15 "I found it in Grandmas drawers"

    I'm sure I'll hear it for this one, but.... I agree with Famous Beagle that computer DAW is an inspiration sucking complex of screens, menu's and plug ins. I'm talking about a digital multitrack unit (sans computer). It works VERY similarily to my old Fostex X-15, just without the tape noise...

    MIM vs MIA Strats

    Someone mentioned Japan made Strats... I'm actually keeping my eye out on CL for the 70's reissue (Ash body with the rounder headstock). I see them from time to time, and they go for around $400.00. They are supposedly very nice playing guitars. I have an early 90's Squire...I may just drop...

    "Eureka" Moments

    Yes! Some time ago, I was recording a pretty decent song and things were going great until I had to lay down the guitar part. I was recording in a strange key and I was having a hell of a time trying to nail the lead. Over and over I went on my brand new ES 175...finally, I was tracking a...

    Fostex X15 "I found it in Grandmas drawers"

    I just retired mine... in the middle of 2008 and went digital (Tascam DP 02). My deck still works fine (just got tired of the tape noise). I still use to record ideas, but for multi tracking, I'm now using the Tascam. It's a great little deck!

    BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer - Place in the studio

    I use it at the end ... of my pedal chain. It actully DOES have a utility for me. I have about 12 pedals, and the BBE helps enhance the original sound of my guitar. The out(s) go to my amp.

    let me see your studio!

    I use a whole lot of traditional outboard stuff... Keyboards, guitars, mixers and multi FX. My little Tascam DP02 is working out fine for my rig. It only has two inputs and you can only record two tracks at a time, but, being a one man band, it works fine for me. I simply run all of my stuff...

    what brand of guitar/bass do you use?

    2001 Gibson ES 135(great for jazz, blues, or rock with a little gain) 1991 Gibson LP Studio(my baby...awesome!) 2008 Epi ES 175 Reissue (VERY nice jazz box for an Epiphone) PRS Custom SE 2007 (great guitar for a great price) Parkwood H2 Hybrid (2007 I think...very interesting sounds with the...

    Most Overrated/Overpriced Electric Guitars

    I guess I'll chime in... My opinion in general is that, yes, primarily Gibson and PRS are overpriced, however, I managed to buy a couple of real nice Gibsons used for very good prices. I have a '91 Les Paul Studio that I purchased for $750.00, and a 2001 ES 135 for $700.00...both guitars are...

    Deoxit?

    I use both the Faderlube and the contact cleaner... I get them at Guitar Center. You can also order from GC online (unless of course you have issues with Guitar Center...which I know a few people on this site do...).

    let me see your studio!

    I'm not... I suppose I'm a dinasaur on this website, but I'm making pretty decent recordings just using the Tascam as a standalone. I've got all of the keys midi'd up in couple of different configurations (i.e. my Roland Juno G with my Access Virus TI, and Korg MS2000R in one setup, and my...

    let me see your studio!

    Hey RickJ Yes, I've had my HR 16 since it was introduced. One of the pads started shorting out so I thought I'd replace it with an SR 16 (also in the picture). I found, though, that I missed the HR 16 too much, so now I use them midi'd together. I do both Sequencing (recording into a Tascam...
