    basic Cubase fader/levels question

Great info guys. But I have to ask. What's the difference between a "input levels in Cubase mixer" and "channel/track fader"? I thought this was the same thing.

    basic Cubase fader/levels question

Ok. I DO have all those faders. :) Actually I was hoping to leave the playback channel faders as is, but throw the record-enabled channel mixer fader UP without affecting the recorded levels (so that the vocalist can hear herself easier). Can I assume that, if turning down the record enables...

    basic Cubase fader/levels question

hmmm Wow! Ok, that pic was very helpful & very confusing. :) Now I'm wondering, I believe SE is a lower version than SX/SL because That panel is "somewhat" like mine. - I have a section of the window with several faders (labeled "In1" or "In1 + In2"). - I can hide/unhide the Master Out. But...

    basic Cubase fader/levels question

Alrighty. So are both the input & output faders in the same Devices>Mixer window? If true then do I assume "input" & "output" simply refers to when you are using them (recording vs mix down)?

    basic Cubase fader/levels question

input vs. output faders Very cool (Input & Output faders). I bought Studio Case which comes with Cubase SE. I am set as "Monitor Via Cubase - Manual". So, IF I understand correctly (and that is a big if), during recording, the mixer faders control the monitored level, not the input level. Is...

    basic Cubase fader/levels question

Ok. This is almost embarrasing. :) Do the Cubase Mixer faders affect the recording input level or are they only controlling the output volume level? In other words, are the mixer faders before or after the actual "record-to-disk" step? So, if I set faders to zero, then set input levels...

    Help! with basic recording levels

raise volume , not recorded levels I like your way of thinking. :) How do I do that? Or is the "cheat and add plug-in" the method you are referring to?

headphones & amp Headphones: AKG K271 Studio Amp - Presonus Central Station, has two headphone jacks each with it's own volume control. Speakers from the PCS also have their own volume control.

    Help! with basic recording levels

separate volume The soundcard output goes into a Presonus Central Station. The PCS has separate volume control for the speakers and each (two) headphone. The track that she sings too is fine. I actually have to lower the track (Cubase mixer) fader to about -7 to match the average vocals volume...

    Help! with basic recording levels

(incorrect) reason for my levels All good info/advice as I expected. :) What I am trying to do is: 1) first and foremost - get the best possible levels recorded. Looks like I'll accomplish this by backing off on the mic-pre gain. 2) boost the volumn of the vocals to the vocalists headphones...

    Help! with basic recording levels

levels vs. faders Ok. So now I have to show how little I (apparently) know. :) So now I get the issue with the mic-pre and the sound card/converter. So what difference is the fader in Cubase going to make to the recording levels? Or, during recording, does the fader only control the volumn...

    Help! with basic recording levels

Good point Hey guys. Damn! Good point (Cubase fader is 'after' input)! Next time i'll set zero across the board and adjust the mic-pre accordingly. Much thanks.

    Help! with basic recording levels

follow up info It's like an electronic raspiness on the louder vocals. No popping, more of a background "paper crinkle" sound.

    Help! with basic recording levels

Hey guys. My angle is mostly for vocals but I assume this applies everywhere. My main concern is a mild harshness (clipping?) that is being added on the louder vocal parts. 1) I record dry and usually try to aim for the peak on the recording channel to stay just under 0.0 (say, -0.5 to -0.2)...

    help narrow gigging mic choices

narrowing down Hmm, I'm getting the impression that the Neumann is the top choice. :) Not surprising. I'm going to try to see if I can set up a "demo" session with a very short list at a local pro shop. Not sure if they'll let us do that. Ok, the Neumann is definitely on the wish list. A lot...

K2 tube/condenser/phantom Whoops, my mistake, you are correct. (K2 = tube, not condenser). :) Heh, heh, guess I should have remembered that since I bought the K2. It's been a while. :) Alright then, that handles the condenser/phantom power issue. Much appreciated. I greatly appreciate the...

    help narrow gigging mic choices

follow up - condenser/phantom Hey guys. Thanks for your suggestions, they are greatly appreciated. Jennifers currently has a 8+ year old Shure Beta 58A. She would probably be happy with the same. I thought I'd check out what else is out there. I know the 58A is popular but I'm not sure where...

    help narrow gigging mic choices

reply - wired/wireless At this price range ($250 to $400-ish) we are looking at wired. Another post mentioned a Neuman but I'm not sure if that is a handheld, which we are looking for (typical working the stage/crowd stuff) so it has to be tough. That's one reason why we aren't going crazy...

    Recommendations for MIDI controller?

Hey guys. Is there a FAQ for this topic? (MIDI tips, not description of.) Been recording (analog) on a home PC with Cubase for about a year. Looking at getting into some MIDI stuff so I'm looking for either recommendations or tips, etc. I have Cubase Studio Case which comes with several VSTi's...
