    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

Well Well i just called the repair shop in town, turns out they "no longer work on reel to reel recorders". (sigh) Sometimes i just want to take this thing and fire it at 1000 miles per hour straight into a brick wall. But, of course i would never harm it. I did record a few guitar parts...

    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

Ok Thank you. Thats what i needed to know. Then yes, there is something terribly wrong with this 388. Because after 25 minutes the heat sink on this thing is ragingly hot, even when its just sitting idle.

    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

Well Well i tried Sweetbeats heatsink just now in my 388. It still got hot as hell. (siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh) Im not sure what to do. The machine functions etc but the sink is getting very hot. Hot...

    Reverb/echo unit

reverb The Tapco 4400 will get really wet and you can EQ it to have the body of a plate. You will always run the risk of "boing" with a spring, but in my experience you can get a HUGE classic reverb sound from a Tapco 4400 by sending your voice out of your mixer on two different channels, then...

    Affordable Equalizer

Eq Have you looked into any of the Orban EQs? They seem to be decent for not that much money.

    Reverb/echo unit

Tapco 4400 I have owned one of those. It is a good sounding reverb, but it is a spring and likely to sound alot like any other spring you are using already. It goes very very deep and wet, and you can run 2 channels on it. You can EQ the reverb as well which means youll be adding a ton of...

My studio gear is up for sale.

bands Have you given any thought to using some of your recording stuff to make a couple bucks recording some of the bands around your area that dont want to spend 60-80 dollars an hour for normal studio time? Even if you charged a 3rd of that youd be doing them a favor and still making more...

    Preamps

Well The one you posted is the newer chinese version. I havent used one, so i cant say if it is better/worse/etc. If you wait around a bit, or go looking in a few other places, you can get one of the older ones for about 100-150 bucks. But, as always, you gotta make sure you are getting one in...

    Preamps

Yes that is true. I figured the OP was happy with his current mic since his questions were about whether a preamp would improve his sound or not, and not whether a better mic would. But yeah, id change the mic first if that is the question.

    Preamps

preamp I dont doubt that you could keep on recording with what you have and be fine. But, if you are looking for a cool sounding inexpensive preamp, id suggest one of the old UK version of the Joe Meek 3Qs. Its got the preamp itself, an optical compressor, and an EQ with unique sounding...

    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

parts So, what do the parts look like that need to be swapped out? Also, would there have to be any kind of soldering etc? Im just trying to grasp what all we are talking about part-wise that has to come out. And thank you immensely for your continuing help.

    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

solder I am not a master solderererer of any kind. Ive done it, but im not great. Let me ask you this, how costly and difficult would it be just to buy replacements for the TR PCB or the regulator if they are in fact the problem?

    Tascam 388 problems Part 2

388 I have considered that, but mine gets hot pretty fast even just sitting idle, and also the fuse in F3 position blew before, and is already yellowing again from just maybe 45 minutes total operation time on it. When i say "yellowing", i mean, its in there among other brand new fuses of the...
