    Metal guitar sound

SM57 off-axis baby. Tried and true!

Does guitars low end and Bass low end tend to fight for the same low end?

I tend to cut all low end out of my guitar from roughly 100-120Hz and below. Sometimes I'll go in and push up a tiny bit at 50Hz when I'm doing metal guitars. When I do bass, I usually scoop out around 200-400 to eliminate some of the "boxy" sound. Of course every situation is different but...

    Do you guys always upgrade?

Hey Moskus, I've had the DFH since January and it is the greatest thing for me since sliced bread! I put together my own drummap as well in Battery so I know your pain. It took me a few days to create (and a few weeks to perfect). I've been programming drums for about 14 years now and this...

    24bit - oldie but goodie

Oh well. It wasn't a very big bubble. I can't complain really about the sound I'm getting through the Pod. It is pretty decent. If I can eliminate another 20 bit conversion with the Roland mixer and get a decent sound direct to the card then I should be in good shape.

    24bit - oldie but goodie

Good plan my man! I was thinking the same thing. I actually have quite a clean sound coming out of my Pod all things considered. I have a super active pickup which seems to help a lot. Now I'll just have to get some decent rca plugs.

    24bit - oldie but goodie

I've searched and read about the whole 16bit vs. 24bit debate. 24bit is obviously the way to go if you can do it. But that is not my whole question here. I would like to present my setup and maybe get some suggestions on what settings I should record. I'm tracking guitars direct through an EQ...

Setting up Sonar 2xl and Delta AP 2496

Thanks for the reply. I think I did have input monitoring set at one point but my latency was terrible. I'll have to try a lower setting. But first I'll try to get it working through the Delta Mixer.

Setting up Sonar 2xl and Delta AP 2496

I just got my Audiophile 2496 card installed. Everything seems to work great. Playback sounds good and recording works fine. I do all my recording through SP/DIF in from my mixer and one thing I can't figure out yet is how to actually hear the input while it is recording. The SBLive card I had...

    Audiophile 2496 and Sonar 2XL

Thanks for the replies. I've tried a lot to fix my SBLive problem and I've come to the conclusion that it's a compatibility problem. I've heard many many people say the same thing. As far as dithering my 16 bit samples.. Sounds interesting but I fear that there are too many samples to even...

    Audiophile 2496 and Sonar 2XL

Hello everyone. I'm currently recording my music with a Sound Blaster Live Platinum 5.1 through my mixer into the SPDIF input. I'm running Sonar 2XL and Windows XP Pro on an Athlon XP 2400+ 512RAM. My recording consists mainly of guitar and bass through a POD 2.0 and I use Battery with a fairly...

    Need some soundcard advice

Yah. I'm really happy with my computer so far. For gaming it is excellent (especially my Radeon 9700 PRO ;) ). When I get my audio thing figured out, I'm going for some Mackie HR824's and probably another 60-80 gig drive for audio only. For the time being, I only need one SPDIF in really. The...

    Need some soundcard advice

I know what you mean ambi. I was just a bit put off by the way you seemed to snark at me a little bit. It's all good. ;) Yah, I've been using SBLive Platinum for 2 years now and I've got some decent results but I think I am beginning to see (hear?) the limitations. Not to mention that it is...

    Need some soundcard advice

OK. That's what I need to know. I didn't know that I wouldn't be able to use one card for input and one for output. Maybe I will be looking for the next step up then. The Audiophile 2496 looks promising. $150 bucks is do-able.. (better than 200 for audigy 2). Then I have to figure out my...

    Need some soundcard advice

Thanks for the advice. I know you get tired of hearing the same stuff over again. :) I guess I want my cake and eat it too in a way but I know that there has to be a decent solution out there for me. I want a good audio card for games (my machine is kickass for games ;) - including Athlon XP...

    Need some soundcard advice

I don't want a big pro audio card. I want a simple card with a digital input.. like the M-audio Dio 2448. Are there any others like this? You have to trust me when I say that my recordings sound better than most people I know with "pro" setups.

    Need some soundcard advice

Well I'll let you hear some of my recordings sometime and you tell me if they're garbage. ;) It's not what you have.. it's how you use it buddy. Plus. I did a search but I didn't find anyone that had my similar situation.

    Need some soundcard advice

Ok, here is my situation. I have a decent PC that I use for recording and gaming. All recording is done with Sonar 2 and a Sound Blaster Live Platinum (through my mixer into the SPDIF input). It's worked OK for me so far but since I upgraded my machine, I've noticed that my SBLive is having...

    Can´t mixdown, please help

I run Sonar 2XL on my D: audio partition and everything works just fine. Sounds like a funny problem.

Which OS should I get for Sonar?

ME is the biggest piece of crap! Windows 2k is the best option for performance and supported drivers. Otherwise get Win98SE.

help me decide: sonar 2 or cubase sx

I've been using Sonar for about a year now. I think you will find it a little more user friendly and easier to understand. I find Sonar's Midi capabilities to be superior too. True, there are no EQ's on the mixers. You have to use a plug-in.. but I prefer the plug-in EQ over any simple 3-band...
