How to get that Stoner Rock Guitar Sound ??

I can get a pretty close approximation of the QOTSA sound with the following: Humbucker guitar, usually neck PU into a USA reissue Big Muff Pi into the dirty channel of my tube amp (it's a Crate Vintage Club 30). I don't have the gain on the amp dimed, more like around 6 or so, crunchy but not...

Poll: Most Overrated Guitar Player OAT

I think that's just part of his thing, always has been. GnR were never especially known for their consistancy or professionalism, but I think the chaos was part of the charm. As far as the Neil Young thing, I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to him as a really great guitarist. I like...

Poll: Most Overrated Guitar Player OAT

From the last thing I heard (and this might be from the late 90s, or early 00s, I don't really remember), Slash is "clean and sober" as in he doesn't do heroin anymore. If I had to bet, I'd say that Tennessee whiskey still makes up a decent percentage of his daily caloric intake.

Poll: Most Overrated Guitar Player OAT

I caught that too. I haven't really paid attention to Velvet Revolver, but it seems like either Slash has gotten rusty, or he was having an off night, or he was just doing his standard awards show thing like his acceptance speech back at the American Music Awards in 1990 (waiting until the...

    Play banjo in the office

Let's face it. Leaving a job via resignation letter is so lame, totally done a million times over these days. And it doesn't get you unemployment. Thus, this banjo is perfect for the office.

    The Guitar Pedal Archive

I go like this: Fender 40th Annv. Stratocaster (or one of many cheap-o's, knockoffs, or oddballs) into: BOSS FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz (gain boost setting) DOD FX35 Octaplus BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal Distortion BOSS TR-2 Tremolo Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi (USA reissue) BOSS SYB-3 Bass Synthesizer...

PRS Tremonti SE or ESP EC 400?

I don't have any experience with either of those, however, seeing as one is the signature model from that guy who was in Creed, I'd pick the other on general principle.

Turret board (falsely labled Point-to-Point) -VS- PCB

My preference for PTP over PC boards always stemmed from the fact that it's simpler to troubleshoot/fix PTP wiring. Also, if a fat dude like me gets lazy and thoughtless and sits on an amp with a PC board in it, the PC board can crack.

Looking into some pedals to mess around with.....

If you're looking for something a little weird, there's the BOSS Bass Synthesizer pedals. I think the model out now is SYB-5, but I got the SYB-3 back in 99 or 00. With the SYB-3 2 of the settings are envelope filter/autowah (up & down), 2 more are kinda weird sythy-sounding envelope filters...

    Creating removable decals/stickers

Peel it off later, huh? What, you got commitment issues? ;) Looks like you want a static cling vinyl logo. (http://www.agisolutions.com/CustomStaticCling.htm is the first thing Google spat out but I'm sure you'll be able to do better by putting some time in) I had a few halloween cartoon...

    Yellow Ledbetter

Definetely a Stratocaster with the neck pickup selected. I've been able to mimic the sound pretty accurately on the clean channel of my early/mid-90s Crate Vintage Club 30 (yeah yeah, I know it's a Crate, but it's all tube and everyone I've talked to about it said that it's probably the best...

    pedal board power question...

Awright, I got the thing yesterday, works like a charm. I dig that it comes with an adapter that looks like the little cap you stick on the top of a 9V battery. If I had known I was going to get this 7 or 8 months ago I might have saved $20 and got the Russian Big Muff that supposedly...

Oops. I left my amp on all night

I have an old Peavey VT Classic that I left on overnight back in like 2002, it blew a fuse and wouldn't turn on afterwards. It sat unused until I got it fixed about a year ago.

    pedal board power question...

I have one of these ( http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Visual-Sound-1-SPOT-Combo-Pack?sku=151694 ) coming in the mail (hopefully) tomorrow. I'll post here about if it works well or not. It's a lot cheaper.

new bass sansamp, now two questions

Do you have a noise gate? I do bass direct in through whatever pedals/fx I feel are neccessary for the tune and finally in through a DBX rackmount compressor/gate before the console. I've found that anytime I have the sound and gain shaped to have any kind of bump to it or any grit there's a...

    setup for low tuning.

I have a Squier Affinity strat that I jacked the action up to play slide on, later I decided I wanted something to do quasi-baritone stuff with, mainly just double chords in a lower voicing, so I got some .13's (ribbon wound D'Addario Chromes) and slapped them on. I kept the action high, and...

    Digidelay kicked it.....gimme recommendations.

I've played w/ a DD-3 my friend had and it was a pain in the ass to do the tap-tempo on it, I agree. The Echo Park tap tempo doesn't work like the BOSS ones, with the holding it down to switch modes and such. With the EP you have to put a pretty hefty amount of weight on the pedal to click...

    Digidelay kicked it.....gimme recommendations.

I recently got a Line 6 (yeah, yeah, boo..hiss.. I know) ToneCore Echo Park, which I'm happy with. It's got tons of options and a tap-tempo which is nice. It's models are taken from the DL4 modeling delay which a lot of people seem to like. They go for around $150, but the reason I got it is...

    what band was this?

Nope. No one I know has even tried to immitate anything off of the 2 albums previous to the one that was on or the seven subsequent ones (granted, one was a country & western album so the sound was more tied to the varieties within that genre than their more recognizable trademark wackiness)...
