    Microphone help please

it just doesn't sound too good of quality, where the rest of my set, when recorded does. the snare sounds fine in the room, but when recorded, it looses its fullness, if that is the correct word. this is really hard to explain, so maybe you guys could post your techniques for record snares...

    Microphone help please

Hey guys. Need your help once again. I have the rest of my drumset sounding good, kick, tom-toms, cymbols, but the snare just doesn't sound quite right to me. I don't think it's the microphone, because it works well for other people, but i'm thinking it's the placement or the EQ. here is a...

    When should you normalise?

IMHO, never. every time you normaliz it changes the waveform slightly. Because in the digital domain, you get nothing for free. Even a simple calculation like gain or normalizing (which is nothing other than applying an amount of gain) will make you lose a tiny bit of info. So if you can avoid...

    The Cold sound of Digital

Digital sound is regularly referred to as "cold" or "harsh" sounding. Analoge is deemed "warm" and "full" toned. Technically, if you were to run, say, an Access Virus synthesizer, through, say, an expensive and good sounding Tube Amp, would, technically, the sound 'warm' up from the harshness of...

    The Mars Microphone

100 large for that small peice?  why did it fail before? it probably has to have a HUGE ass diaphram for it to pick up sound on the thin atmosphere of mars, so it probably got died during landing.

try compression. set it so that is pumps and breathes, i.e. fast attack etc., so you an hear it working. this will make the vocals right up front.
