I'm looking for a good high end pre and am stuck debating between the Twin Q and the MP20. i'm kinda leaning more towards the twin Q simply because of all the different features it has on it. anyone have any experience with these two units? is there anything else in the same price range i...
hmm, i'll hafta try that.
i just thought that after i've done my final mix, i could fine tune things and boost the overall dynamics by adding compression. i'm kind of new at recording so maybe this isnt a common practice
hey everyone, i was wondering if any of you could help me out or find the weak link in my chain.
the problem i've run into deals with adding compression to master tracks.
basically what i normally do is record all the tracks and then mix them in MTP mode. when i'm done mixing them i use the...
the problem with condensors is that you really hafta trust the drummer. you dont want to risk having the drummer ruin your mic by accidentally hitting it
is there any way i could hard limit my tunes? i would assume that if you put a compressors ratio to as high as it will go that should limit it but i could be wrong
hey everyone. i'm still kinda new at recording so i'm just kinda learning things as i go along. but i need some suggestions.
i find that usually my mixes arent very loud when i listen to them on a cd player. i've had people suggest to me in the past that when i'm mixing, i should just crank up...

i just find that its almost as if i really dont have much need for a snare mic because even if i crank it, it still doesnt seem to come out in the mix. thats why i was trying to find out if theres any way of making it stand out more. its a tight sounding snare so it cuts through a lot so thats...
i'm placing my overheads about a foot and a half above my cymbals. my cymbals are set up so that if i stretch my arms out at about a 45 degree angle (from my drum stool) i can reach them. hope that helps
i'm having problems trying to isolate my snare drum. i find that i always have snare bleed in my overheads and its so much that even when i turn down the fader which i sent the snare mic's signal to, it does nothing. usually, i position my overhead mics fabout a foot above my cymbals and facing...
phil spector and all the other big producers of the day used to use what they call the wall of sound. basically you cram a bunch of musicians into a small room with a few large diaphram condensors and let them play. the sound bounces off the walls and into the mic giving it a pretty full sound...
i have the same problem and have been trying to figure it out for a while. i find that my channel levels sound great but when it comes to doing the masters, i find the mix to be too quiet. even when the max peak is at -2db
what's everyone think of these? apparently they are supposed to be almost identicle to the 421s minus the bass roll off. has anyone used these? do they sound good?

this is my first time recording anything on my new vs2400cd. let me know what you think and/or what should be done to it to make it sound better or help me with future projects.
the one thing i've noticed is that the overall volume...
i'm havinga problem with my mixes. when i look at the master VU the song normally plays around the -4db range and the highest it will go it to the -2db line. but i find that my mixes still aren't loud enough when compared to other cds. i havent tried normalizing the master tracks yet but i...
or you could use the phil spector method and record a bunch of musicians all at once in a really small room that way the sound reflects off all of the walls and bleeds its way into all of the mics
thanks a lot. yeah like i said, since i havent had a manual, i'm not sure about the capabilities of using the dw6000. the only things i'm really interested in is getting it to work with my vst effects/midi and i was wondering if there's a way to reset the synth to have it's orriginal factory...
thanks i'll try that out. i bought the DW6000 used and i was never given the manual with it, so i'm trying to figure out things on my own. is it a big manual? is there a place where i could find it on the web? or find scans?
