    Drop-tuning etc

My Fender So Cal Speed Shop Strat is my only 1 of 18 guitars that is drop tuned; C - C. If I want to go lower than that, I have my Fender Bass VI, as I don't own a baritone guitar. Matt

    12-string Tele Deluxe p'ups?

TV Jones does sound good, though. Should I get the Tele Deluxe body rear routed, I could get the typical TV Jones mounting option, which is surface mount. It'd look a tad more like a Ric, then. Matt

    12-string Tele Deluxe p'ups?

Somebody at the Unofficial Warmouth forums turned me on to these... http://store.guitarfetish.com/meal2ritovij.html If I was planning to use a Thinline Tele body, I could get fairly close to a Rickenbacker 360/12, but for still wanting to go with a Telecaster Deluxe body (a gut feeling), I'll...

    12-string Tele Deluxe p'ups?

I've decided, as I have for my want of a lap steel, that I will build my own 12-string electric guitar. In looking at the various bodies and necks available, I've decided that I'll go with a Warmouth reproduction '72 Telecaster Deluxe body, and Warmouth Pro 12-string neck. They also sell a Gotoh...

How Many Guitars do you own

Got number 18, a used Gibson Melody Maker, off of a 90-day lay-away, on Friday. Had thought it was a Les Paul Junior, when I'd put it on lay-away, but found out it's a Melody Maker. I'd tried a Gibson Melody maker in February 2007, at the Guitar Center in Indianapolis, but it was either from a...

    expensive vs. low-cost guitars?

When I was looking to buy a Fender Telecaster, I'd tried a fair number of 'em, from the MIM Standards to the entry level for American models. I forget how many I'd tried all together, but when I was ready to plunk down some bucks (30-day lay-away, though), I was at the Guitar Center in...

Electric Guitar needed in my budget.

Check out the Peavey JF2 EXP. If you don't need the vibrato tailpiece, then check out the Peavey JF1 EXP. I'd bought my slightly used Gold Sparkle JF2 EXP when I was looking for a rockabilly box, and happened to recognize it as the same one that I'd tried out when it was new. Although I'd been...

    Lap Steel Opinions

I'm planning to build a lap steel, and only so that I can get exactly what I want in a lap steel. I've already got a dog-eared Gibson P90 that I'd originally intended as an upgrade for my Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90., so that's one part out of the way. I'll use a wrap around stop bar a la Les Paul...

    Post Your Dream Guitars Here

One guitar that I'd LOVE to own is a National Resophonic http://elderly.com/new_instruments/items/NGRL3.htm. Otherwise, I've pretty much got one of my dream guitars in my Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cutaway (Worn Cherry) -...

    What's yer fave tuner?

My Fender Stratocaster (Mexican) already had Sperzel locking tuners, when I bought it. I have two sets of 3x3 Wilkinson locking tuners, for my Gibson Les Pauls, in preparation for adding a Bigsby B5 to each. I don't yet know how well Wilkinson tuners work, but the Sperzel tuners do a good job. Matt

    Who needs a guitar?????

    A balloonitar! :D

    OMG!! Now this is shredding!!!

Nah. Give 'em an acoustic guitar and see what happens. I typically measure how good a player is by how they can do on an acoustic, and by that measure, I've still got plenty of work to do. Now, in my opinion, neither one of those videos featured any kind of shredding. What they did feature was...

    Best/Favorite SOLID STATE Amp (poll)

I voted for Peavey 'cause my TransTube 258 EFX combo is a decent little practice amp. Have tried several of the Vox ValveTronix combos, and while (initially) not as "intuitive" as my Peavey, I caught on fairly quickly for just a "test drive." For true portability, I do have a Vox DA-5...mucho...

    Pickup and Lego!!

I don't need an excuse, I'd just play with 'em! Too bad I don't have any, currently, but I do need to give into the temptation to buy something Lego, next time I'm at Wal-Mart or Kmart. Matt

Lap steel project; which single coil?

I hadn't thought about Lindy Fralin's P92 or Twangmaster, when I asked the question. Although I'd mentioned the possibility of using a Gibson-style bridge/stop bar or wrap around stop bar, there's a Telecaster bridge that TV Jones recently came out with that would work well for what I'm wanting...

Lap steel project; which single coil?

I've decided that I'm going to build my own lap steel guitar, starting with collecting the hardware and electronics, then buying the woods. At this point, I'm still too wishy-washy as to which single coil pickup to use. I'll be looking to use this more for original surf instrumental creations...

    Guitar tone

Don't forget the controls on the guitar, when searching for a just right tone. For some of my favorite jams (future songs), I'll max. the tone control(s) and have the volume control(s) mid-way; 5 - 6. I've gotten some interesting tones from turning the tone control(s) to 0, then fiddling with...

    roll your own

This could be quite useful, when I set about to build my own lap steel guitar. So far, I'm thinking along the lines of mahogany for the body/neck, and rosewood for the fingerboard, with pieces of maple as position markers (instead of frets). Right now, I can't decide which pickup I want to use...

    Gibson ES339???

Why an ES339? If I'm going to drop that kind of scratch on any electric guitar, solid or hollow bodied, I want to hear it and play it first. You might do better visiting your nearest Gibson dealer, and playing the ES selections they have. I'm not saying you should "settle" for anything less than...

Do you own a variety of colors or just one?

I don't know? If I can't enjoy it, I won't buy it, no matter how good it looks and if I can afford it. If it sounds/plays like crap, it's going back on the store wall/guitar stand for somebody else to buy. I play all of my guitars/basses, some more than others (I have my favorites that I keep...
