    Otari MTR-10 vs. Tascam BR-20T

All things being equal, I would go MTR-10 based on it's looks. It also seems to have a very nice transport and I'm sure it must sound great. Of course if space is a premium, the BR-20 would be much easier to find space for due to it's more compact size.

Teac A-3440 - clicking and not playing - was working fine!

Hmmm, very strange. I once had this machine but never saw that behavior. The only thing I can say is try putting the hubs back on and load a tape and see of the same thing happens, also check the cuing lever. Are you sure you put everything back together ok? I seem to recall that some boards are...

    B77 recording problem

Have you cleaned all the switches and contacts? I had an old Sony that I had to clean every thing before it would work right.

I Now Have FOUR R2R Machines Here- I REALLY Gotta Get To Working On Them

All those units are far from junkers IMO. All are worthy of repair. They likely just need some TLC, rubber and lube, and perhaps a cap or two changed and you should be good to go. I would invest in a quality demag unit like the han d mag, and maybe an alignment tape. Good luck! :)

    Logging tape?

The 42 has a excellent transport, the best I've used so far in terms of tape handling, you can see a video I made of my 42 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS6d3pg6mrI

    Logging tape?

Interesting! I would imagine logging tape would need to have a long shelf life if it's needed for critical applications, however, it may not be as durable for repeated FF/REW/REC cycles I would assume.

    Logging tape?

Thanks for the replies. Yeah the tape will be mainly for playing around with and maybe testing, ect, nothing serious. I can see the possibility of the tape stretching as it's very thin, but I consider the tape basically free as all I really want are the reels and plastic storage case. :)

    Logging tape?

I recently got a good deal on some new logging tape. I was planning on ditching the tape and keep the reels, but gave the tape a try anyway. It sounds a lot better than I thought it would. In fact other than lower output and having a .5mil thickness, it sounds very good. Now my question is...

Some of my Tascam 48 recordings...

Here are 3 samples I recorded a few years ago with my 48, they are very basic for the most part and are in 24/96 wma format. The 3 samples are Rock, Alternative and New Age styles. I thought I would post them just for fun. :) www.mastercontrolmedia.net/rock.wma 8 Track - vocals removed...

Looking to hire someone to bounce to tape . . .

Well, it could potentially work IMO, if the D/A A/D converters used are of good quality and the analog tape machine used is at least half track/15ips. I have recorded sterile digital recording to tape and found it sounded much better, but I have never then reconverted the tape copy back to...

    tascam 48 ----- manual?

Sold it all off during a moment of weakness. I did get a 42 late last year, but that's all I have left as far as analog tape. I don't plan of replacing anything else, unless I come across a mint, local, 50 series deck.
