Good one!!! I assume you are being funny. Yes, the scientific method may be boring, but it gets right to the pertinent facts. It's good to get that stuff squared away so that we can get on to the fun stuff--actually recording!!!! Thanks everybody, I think we have a handle on this now.

No need to speculate further on this until we've used the correct cables for this application. That will happen tonight. We will try both XLR to XLR, AND XLR to TRS--neither of which has been tried by us yet. I myself and pretty convinced that this is the issue. If you're wondering what the...

Oh, yeah And we were definetely NOT using the MIC input on the MOTU. At all.

Just thought of something else about all this. I was working with Mr. Creep and the DAV last night. It just occured to me that we didn't have enough XLR's on hand at the moment and we hooked it up to the MOTU using XLR to 1/4" cables. Could this in any way be the problem? Thanks, everyone

The Police - Driven To Tears

Most Excellent!!! One of my favourite Police songs. Great playing and vox. If I were mixing it, I'd probably cut the reverb on the drums (or snare) in half. And the bass was possibly a tad loud in the mix. Do you (or, you guys) do originals?

    Latin Rock

Very cool to hear you doing this, Tim!!!! It sounds like you're having fun for sure. The lead tone and playing is superb. I love the main 'melody' part. The rhythm--You have a very cool strum style. Much of what you already know translates well to this near-cousin of an instrument...

    neat little song

Back for more, eh???? We haven't heard from you in a while. I imagine it probably gets old typing in the same insults to everyone over and over and over and over and over again. You'll be gone again in a few days, or a week, just like everytime before. Well, I honestly hope you get something...

    neat little song

Love it!!!! I love a nice, long, hot shower too!! Too short, though!! Guitar sounds awesome. And as has already been said, the snare could use more life. I guess it's hard to make out the first syllable of 'the word'. I knew what it was already from reading the other posts. Good work.

    Shizzen Flizzen Blizzen Rizzin....

Damn, RAMI. Really good. You're music is always so very tight. And I mean that not in the current slang way, but in the musical way: every instument is played precisely and in perfect time. Guitars sound excellent. Mix is great. Song is great. I don't think I heard any earlier...

    hellllppp meeeee please.

This mix sounds good to me. Everything was recorded well. This is not my really my style of music-- But what is wrong with the vocals? They're not pretty, but if they were, it wouldn't be the right style. Some of the more 'melodic singing' parts are a little out of tune here and there...

    Day Tripper

Cool. Very nice. I really like the rhythm guit--the way it's played and the way it's mixed in. It's really doing the 'percussion' job well, despite the fact that it's a guitar!!! Wouldn't mind hearing any and all Beatle songs done TL style. There's only 200+ of them or so. You could do...

Strange number of "Guests" in the mp3 clinic

Oh, man. What if it starts to become like 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers'? Like possibly the 'guests' are taking over members' screen names without anyone else's knowledge. How do we know that that is the real Timothy Lawler? It sounds like TL, but I can't be entirely certain. And...

    DIY Mastering Clinic #1!!!!!

So I'm on dial-up. And I like the idea of playing around with mastering, even with meat-cleavers and hack-saws. So yes I'm a complete idiot. We'll just get that out of the way right now. Anyway, I've listened to the source track and Dogman's first job so far: First of all the song is very...

    DIY Mastering Clinic #1!!!!!

Well, my musical cohort, Supercreep, and I, will be finishing our CD and probably doing a DIY mastering job on it soon. We could use some insights into this process as I'm sure there are many things we're doing wrong or not doing at all. Mr. Creep is the keeper and master of our digital stuff...

    The Very Last Song

Thanks everyone. Most definetely some Nilsson influences going on in this one--and the others mentioned here as well. But I think that the vox need to be mixed in a little bit better, in my opinion. ido--This won't be the closing song on the CD. Right now it looks like 'For a Dying Bird'...

    For a Dying Bird

Thanks fella's. Naka--Haven't heard 'Close to the Edge' in a long, long time. Great song. Does it have bird sounds on it? So does that one Beatles version of 'Across the Universe'. Seems like its been done too much maybe. I don't know. TL--I'm really glad you approve of the acoustic...

    For a Dying Bird

Thanks Calwood. Keep in mind this is not the final mix. The acoustics are dry as a bone so far. I think they could use a little eq, a little better panning, and maybe a hint of reverb. e unum pluribus, DavidK--thanks, guys. I just knew that this aspect of the song was going to be the most...

    For a Dying Bird

Hey, thanks for the comments. I'm not sure I follow you entirely, however: First you applauded the idea, then at the end said we shouldn't do it. And if we get rid of the ending portion, how can we still use the 'start off with the end of Disc one' trick? In any event, I'm not that worried...

    Progressive Rock - Suggestions Please

Fantastic playing. Great sounding recording. This obviously took a lot of work. And although the guitars are a HUGE part of this music, I think that the playing is so good all around, it could use a more balanced mix. I would have to say that this mix is a 'guitar-centric' mix. I realize...
