Tee hee, i've never heard it called "Grandma’s soup" before but i love it and will call it so from now on :thumbs up: I've never tried it with thyme, just the hot water, lemon and honey. However, if it was before a gig i just went the full hog and added a shot of whiskey (tut tut! i know it's...
I'll have a stab, although i warn you i'm very sleepy so i apologise in advance for possible rambling, poor spelling, and lack of sense.
My initial instinct would be to ask what you aim to achieve by using the compressor whilst recording. Would do want/expect it to do? There might be some...
Massive :thumbs up: To me, experimenting is half the fun of recording :)
Also a very, very valuable point! A matched pair of SDC's can be super useful for numerous things.
I tend to be one of the "two-mic-on-acoustic-guitar" guys, but what i use and where varies hugely depending on the...
IMO a very wise decision :thumbs up: MD421's come in handy a lot and ribbon mic's are just awesome on dirt guitar! Yeah, there was a time when ribbon mic's cost an arm and a leg, and certainly there are still some that do (for very good reasons), but since a lot of chinese factories have started...
Hi and welcome to the boards. To start, many times it is possible to capture a more than adequate tone with just a single SM57, but to do so you do really need to experiment with positioning the mic, the amp tone itself, and the type of guitar you are using.
However, it rock and metal it is...
Logic has the automation hidden if you want it too as well to help prevent screen clutter.
And oddly, it would appear, i don't use automation that much. If i do it's usually for pans and effect on's and off's and only very occasionally for volumes. If i'm automating volume i much prefer to use...
I've owned 2 since 2003 and love them to bits. On one of them the body work has become a bit tarnished as i lived in very damp, essentially underground, flat for 2 years and, although one of the was fine, the other got effected. However, dispite the body work looking a little....weathered shall...
Dude, there's no need to explain, sE make great mics and it makes me happy that someones like sE mics as much as i do :thumbs up: (although, for some reason, and it's probably the teacher in me, i feel that i should offer alternative suggestions :D). The sE4400a's seemed like wonderful mics from...
Honestly, there are countless other LDC's in a similar price range and of varying quality to the C214's so, depending on what else you have or if you have any audio examples of what you're recording you could share, suggesting a long list of other LDC's will probably murky the water more than it...
i've been eyeing up the cheaper ADK mics for ages (purely because there's no way i could afford the higher prices stuff) and i've been impressed by everything i've heard from their collection. I do agree with Bobbsy that "audiophile" does tend to make me cringe slightly but i think in ADK's case...
I've had a Taylor Big Baby since 2003 and love it to bits man! I'm a short/small guy and normal dreadnaught acoustics engulf me in guitar :( I borrowed a friends 814ce a couple of years back for some recording and wasn't instantly blown away but when i went back to the big baby the differences...
Damn it, yeah the links gone now :( i can't even remember what it looked like now (i remember it was silver, that's it). Cool, didn't realise pearl drums ever made mics. Pretty cool find, we shall await the results :thumbs up:
Definitely :thumbs up: As i said, in the example i gave of our band recording, we were very lucky that we had access to some nice mics as and when we needed them and have some nice mid priced pre's between us. It does also depend wildly upon the space you have available to you at home to record...
Ah moresound, you never hold back :D
Tbf my experience of Audix as only been their dynamic drum mics (not their OH's in the set of any of the other condensers they now seem to do) and they seem to do what they do pretty well. I wouldn't necessarily jump for them if i had options but, then...
Don't know how much info there is here, but the Pearl mic website is a cool read regardless. They're one of the those brands that i've only ever heard mentioned yet never seen or heard anything by them. They certainly look cool if nothing else :)
In general terms, i'm not a fan of the C414. HOWEVER they are my all time favourite mic for acoustic guitars! I've also had some great results with them for drum OH's. If you're aiming to use them mainly for acoustic guitars i'd say go for it! If it were me (and it's not, but this is just my...
