Buying four microphones on a budget

I know right! It's insane! After looking at the neumann stuff i though "hmm, what UK audio manufacturers are there?" and instantly thought neve and thought "yeah, surely that'll be cheaper this side of them pond". Then again, aren't Rupert and his wife now US citizens? And if that's not bad...

Buying four microphones on a budget

RARRR!!! Even Neve stuff is way cheaper stateside! The Portico Master Buss Processor - sweetwater price $3995. KMR in the UK price £3594. £3594 converts to $5584!!!! :wtf: Now i'm starting to understand why so many people leave this tiny island. It's like fast food chains offers where the...

Buying four microphones on a budget

Umm.... i hope we do. A TLM 102 is about £480, which is $746. Sooo, to sweetwater i go for the $ price.... SOB! US - $699 which is £449  Man, this sucks :( The worst part is if you buy stuff from the states you then get hit with uk VAT at 20% (unless it's paid upfront), and if it's...

Buying four microphones on a budget

Another mic that gets sooooooo much cred around the net but isn't as dirt cheap here as it is stateside. Don't get me wrong, it's not mega expensive here but a pair here would cost £378 (just shy of $500!). :( Come on USA, adopt the euro and everybody wins :)

MultiMix8 Firewire with MacBook Pro- HELP!

Lol, fair play man. As a mac guy, i'd be very, very, very, ultra surpirsed if any macbook pro from the last 10 years didn't have a firewire port! On the older Macbook whites and then unibodies they did drop the firewire port, but half the point of the "pros" was to keep the firewire.

    T Bone Retro Bottle mic

Wow, is it me or has that come down in price a lot!!! A friend of mine has one and his exact words were "it was alright until it fell apart". He still uses it but purely as the Side in M/S setups and it's held together with gaffa tape (i think the bottom of the bottle bit came lose/off but i'm...

MultiMix8 Firewire with MacBook Pro- HELP!

I'm mega confused because, unless i've read it wrong or missed something, the Macbook Pro 5.5 does have a firewire port, except it's Firewire 800 not Firewire 400 so all you'd need is a Firewire 800 to 400 adaptor or cable (like this one).

Buying four microphones on a budget

True dat :( Unfortunately, they're £170 here, which is about $250 and even used they're not a whole bunch cheaper :( Hopefull the euro will catch on in the states and then all our conversion problems will be solved :D I think the "CL" bit refers to the package rather than directly to the C02...

    My bedroom for vocals :)

Tbh it's the first ribbon mic i ever bought and the first mic i ever modded so it's very high on the sentimental value list. Plus, it does sound fan-flippin-tastic. Really deep and tight low end and ultra smooth high end. It's not great for everything, but it's one of those mics that when it's...

Said goodbye to all my sm57's

Hot damn that's a foxy looking mic

    My bedroom for vocals :)

Cheers man. Yeah it's a fun old house. Plus the neighbours on one side is a mate of ours who plays drums and has band practices at his house so neither of us minds the odd bit of musical noise, and the other neighbour is cool and assures me he doesn't ever hear any thing. Ahh man, i wish it was...

    My bedroom for vocals :)

Do you know what's really annoying; over the past week i've been taking a lot of photos of mic placements and pedal settings as i'm working on an album for the same band and want to be able to recreate a sound if needs be, but looking through my phone i have only have a couple of photos, and...

    My bedroom for vocals :)

Tbf, after playing around in the hallway i started venturing around the house to see how different rooms sounded. Long story short - hallway/top of stairs (old 1920's red brick terrace with a huge space above the stairs) great for "percussive" percussion (claps, blocks, tambourine), and bathroom...

    Striving for vintage sound! Tips?

If you've not seen them, have a look for the "Classic Album" documentary series. There's some wonderful stuff on there. I think it was on Deep Purple's "Machine Head", where they were recording in an hotel that was closed for the season. They'd do a take as a band and, at first, they'd go and...

Condenser Microphone for Vocals around $350 - 500?

I've had my eye on these for a while, mainly the Hamburg. How do you find them? Anything the particularly excel at? Big fat +1 for the sE2200a. Like Bobbsy i started with one and now have two and a bunch of other sE mics just from my experience with the sE2200a. I'm also a big fan of the...

    My bedroom for vocals :)

For the first time ever i did the exact opposite a couple of days back and went out into the hall because my room was too dry! i was trying to record some handclaps and even with some distance between myself and the mic they just sounded flat and unnatural, even with various reverbs. So i...

Comfortable with what i have :)

Tbh, i'd look on the second hand market as they updated the design and added some new features all at the price of functionality. Frankly the new one looks awful as well (i know that shouldn't be a deciding factor when buying new gear but come one, look at it, it looks like a steering wheel from...

Comfortable with what i have :)

Computers with fancy DAW's, stand alone multi-trackers, even stereo reel-to-reel all suck in comparison to the almighty recording power of my early 90's Fisherprice Tape Recorder WITH built in microphone! Editing? Different mics? More effects than you can shake a leg at? Nope. None of that...

    Recording tambourine....

Cheers man, it's a very long story, but the heavily abridged version goes - teenage arthritic condition (my spine looks like lego bricks badly stacked together to form a "S" from the side, with the lego stacked on hardened mayonnaise..... and that's not even that much of an exaggeration) that i...

    Recording tambourine....

True dat. Hopefully this will be one of those lessons that will stick in my memory, but seeing as i'm currently taking enough painkillers to sedate keith richards i'm not holding out too much hope. i've just realised, i could write these kind of things down on post-it notes and stick...
