    Korg D-16 Drive Noise?

Yes, the d16 can have a "clangy" hard drive sometimes. Not a problem if you have a separate control room (which most of us don't). However, I have had very little problem with this if I use good mic placement. I don't have a vocal booth, so I sometimes put a little piece of foam between the...

    Cdr and DVD

Folks: I'm a little confused about cdr and why they don't play in some dvd/cd players. I want to be able to master and burn small quantities of cds that will play in any cd or cd/dvd player. Is that what "red book" means? The ads for the alesis masterlink says that it will burn cds that are...

    Pawn Shop Heads

RichB: I love it when an old post sneaks back up on you. Yeah, you nailed it on the head (no puns intended) with the description of the clear, worn out area in the center. The only solution I can see is to have a hoard of pimply teenagers bang the hell out of my drumheads before I put them on...

    Guillemot and n-track

I'm trying to get into computer recording on a budget. This Guillemot ISIS soundcard/breakout box with 8 in and 4 out seems like a good deal for $279. Don't know how it sounds. N-track would seem to be a logical partner to this low-cost solution. Anybody know if the two are compatable? I...

    What "mags" do you read

OK, there's a foot of snow on the ground and I'm bored. Just wondering what recording magazines people find helpful. I have found that Home Recording Magazine, while being kind of thin, has good articles. Electronic Musician seems to just review esoteric equipment that I will never use.

    D-16 Burners

d16 Chiledude: Don't know about the orb drive and Phillips burner. But I can tell you that the yamaha 8424 external cdr/rw drive I got from dirtcheapdrives.com works for me. Yes, it does hook directly to the SCSI port of the d16. The drives may ship with software since they assume you are...

    Celeron and n-track

Slackmaster2k: Your brevity is refreshing in the face of those (like me) who ramble endlessly without even answereing the inital question. So, the only thing I have to say is.....thanks!

    D-16 Burners

I feel the momentum! Tojoe: Welcome to the d16. As for your comments. Yes, I think the effects are pretty good, especially since there are no extra effects cards to buy. I usually record guitars thru a Millenium J-Station, so I don't use the guitar effects. I record the bass directly using...

    Celeron and n-track

Hello N-track users: I am thinking about using my celeron 566 computer for audio tracks. If I install a second 7200rpm drive and bump the ram up to at least 128, will I get good results? I already have a Korg d16, so it won't be worth it to me unless I can get more than 16 tracks from the...

    D-16 Burners

Chiledude: Yes, you can also burn an audio CD with the yamaha burner. I would call it "mastering" only in the loosest sense of the word. But if what you want to do is record tracks to the d16 and then, using the mastering effects on the d16, make a demo quality cdr, sure it works great...

    Kick drum sound...

I tried everything to get the kick sound I wanted. I finally gave up and now I record a singnal from the D112 and also, on a separate channel, I record a triggered sound from an Alesis d4. Ddrum trigger. I just mix it together and get a pretty good punchy sound, or other sounds depending on...

    Home-built edrumpads - Newer Designs?

The Pulse inserts are junk. I ordered one out of curiosity and it is essentially a hard piece of particle board (actually Masonite) with a trigger stuck to the bottom. Hard as a rock. The foam you see in the catalog actually goes on the bottom.

    Demo Recording

Cyanjaguar, Just wondering where I can get the 1010 bundled with vegas for that cheap. I know Sweetwater.com sells it for about $1,000. I want this unit, but I have only seen it that cheap when shipped minus the software.

    D-16 Burners

Poetdoc, Like I have posted before (search my name and you will see) this is a problem I have dealt with. I ended up with the Yamaha burner and it works just fine. About $300 from dirtcheapdrives.com. I don't know anyone else that has used any of the other burners listed on the Korg site...

    Pawn Shop Heads

OK, Lets discuss some trivial yet perplexing topic. I often will buy old school snare kits (maybe 10 lug Ludwigs or old Olympics) at local pawn shops, lets say for $50 or so. Here's why: it seems that the older the snare head (I mean OLD, like from the eighties) the better the sound. I will...

    d16 sound modeling...

I don't know what REMS modeling is, but I do use the d16. The amp models are Ok; some better than others. I usually use a Johnson J-station for direct guitar to the d16. I do like the reverbs, multiband limiters, stereo chorus, flangers, etc in the d16. The d16 also has a bass multi effect...

    Home-built edrumpads - Newer Designs?

OK, tell me more! What is this Drum Supply House? What do you mean by do-it-yourself mesh kits? Is this just plans you can buy or actual kits?

No r0de at Mars. What gives?

After all the posts on the Rode NT3, I went to Mars Music to buy a pair for drum overheads. They looked at me like I wa crazy. Don't carry them. They had never heard of Rode. What the heck is this! Are these actually good mics or are they just talked up around this site.

    Home-built edrumpads - Newer Designs?

I have been building my own drum pads for my alesis d4 unit for several years. I use the remo practice pads and piezos from Radioshack. These work pretty well and my design is excellent(I was a mechanical engineer in a past life) but I want to know if home-built technology has moved past this...
