    My guitar sounds suck!

First, for the amount of things you have going on in there, that's a good mix. You can hear everything, even the clean guitar never really disappears. For the guitars, you need more mids, less of the crispy top end. The white noise does come through. Some of that may be the particular pedal...

*- GUITAR AMPS -* What kind do you have?

Chilltone amps are the way to go if you ask me. HiOctane 300, Octane, Overdrive 20, Plexi dual master volume. But also Ampeg VT40, V4b, AIMS dual twelve, Mesa DC-5, Carvin VT50, Electar Tube 10, Univox U45B.

I want to buy a good Wah Wah pedal. Any recommendations?

Dunlop GCB95 with three resistors changed. Total cost ~$35 for a used pedal plus <$1 for three resistors. It's amazing what potential the circuit has given the way they ship it. Stock it's a good wah sound, but with small mods, it is an awesome sound.

A list of essential guitar effects? Help please :-)

Fuzz/overdrive/distortion--fuzz face, SD-1, DS-1, big muff, etc Wah--Dunlop GCB95 Phaser and/or flanger--Maestro phaser, EH small stone (or clone if you're into chorus...think Come as You Are), MIJ BF-2 Delay--Ibanez DE-7 And the number one effect of all time: cranked tube amplifier. These...

    WTF is up with Marshall?

Ozraves, check out this amp: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38075&item=3746779601&rd=1 I don't know the guy and haven't asked him about the amp, but looks like a decent Marshall MV combo if you're looking for one...

    Amp help

You've isolated the problem in the circuit to the springs or before. If you think it's the solder or connections, check the reverb input connections; next thing to look at is the reverb input drivers.

I'm really confused... will the real Bill Lawrence please stand up?

I have a pair of BL L500's in my SG and they sound pretty good. When I was looking into that I found some of the story, and IIRC it goes something like Bill Lawrence and the now-BLUSA guy were doing business. They split and BLUSA ended up with his name and sold Bill Lawrence or 500 series...

    Rythm Guitar Chronicles...

Aaron's right, turn down the gain a bit because how it sounds in the room and how it sounds at the cone are usually different. I like to have two guitar tracks panned about 3/4 to either side, with something different about the two tracks: different guitar, amp, settings, cab, mic, and/or...

    Wilkinson Tremolo

Why do you like that one better than the Wilk? I don't own a Wilk but I've been thinking about sticking one on my wood blocked strat, so I can get rid of the fernandes w/ floyd. A friend of mine has a Wilkinson on an 80's strat and says it stays in tune quite well. I believe he has locking...

i need a new ax, suggest one!

How about something with P-90's like an Agile DC or LP or an Eastwood HiFlyer or Sidejack. You might find a Gibson LP jr or SG jr but probably not for $300... Eastwood: http://www.myrareguitars.com/Eastwood.html Agile...

    WTF is up with Marshall?

I'll take a JMP or JCM800 1959 or 2203 with a 412 before a new DSL401. Vintagey Marshall or small modern Marshall, you decide. That is crazy.

    Gibson Les Paul

A good point about compensation: there are bottlenecks in the chain and it's easier to cut sound later than add sound later, in particular with top end. If you start with a dark(er) pickup it's difficult to get top end back later, while if you start witha bright(er) pickup it's easier to cut...

how do I get Blink 182's sound?

Um, "Take off your pants and jacket." Seriously though, a recto and a HB will probably get you there, and there are a number of other amps that have similar gain structures but sound a bit different, the SLO, Bogner Extacy, 5150, Ampeg/Jackson 502/1002, and probably others as well.

    The Ramones

In the Ramones Anthology, one of them says Johnny dimed the controls on his Marshalls. I haven't looked close enough to see if they were 4 input non-masters or 2 input master volumes. And of course, the Mosrite with P90's probably helps trim the low end as well. Bass looks like a P-bass into...

And if you're looking for bang for the buck, look at the Agile and Nelsonic LP copies. Rondo distributes the Agiles, http://www.rondomusic.bigstep.com/homepage.html, and also puts them up on ebay.

No sound on playback, no MIDI output devices?

Thanks for the tip, inserting the VSC DXi gets the MIDI working. It calls up a window prompting creation of a MIDI source track and first synth output (audio). Is there a way to get those tracks w/o having the VSC synth track? Couldn't find the MME/WDM button on Options|Audio...is it...
