I'm stuck with a 7-foot ceiling, have about 8-inches to spare with overheads in this week's sweet spot. Any closer, the stereo image gets borked & I start whacking mics (big drums, 7 piece).
I too use four mic setup, but am a complete noob.
You answered your own question. With a singing bass drum and washy ride, the bottom will never fall out... That's what I keep telling the guitarist anyway.
I know you're the drumber, until now I've only posted in the drum forum.
Pedestrian suggests getting from point A to B without taking chances. Not an insult but a dubious compliment... Didn't take any chances with crazy fills, etc.
Where I'm from the nicest things people say come with a punch...
If you're into the artsy stuff consider watercolor paint or indian ink, on a nice white coated head. They're thin enough to not deaden the head too much. Pastels would be cool but would smudge if you're gigging often.
If the head is smooth, might be able to scratch design into it then smear...
I'll say it's fucking awful too, but with a smile and as a compliment.
It reminds me of Hate Eternal (minus the budget and necessary tracks to work with). Maybe listening to that will help on the next one (?).
They're good drums, but I wouldn't give them too much credit versus 'actual drum makers'. They use the same shells & hardware that you can buy at http://www.drummaker.com/.
The three dots in the 'U' suggest it's a 1960's model.

Yours seems to match the bottom one.
Sounds like you need a "piezo buzzer", Radio Shack sells them for about $3.50.
They work, I've done it... And it's not rocket science to install.
Crack it open first, maybe a connection came loose.
