    Nylon String/Guitar Question

Woke up to another broken string. This time the A. It seems that the strings are breaking at the winding post. I checked for sharp edges but they are beveled. Maybe a little sandpaper to add a bit more relief. I looked at GOTOH machines and they look identical to what is on there now. They are...

    Nylon String/Guitar Question

Rinse and repeat (y) I do that as a matter of course. And, no, that is not the reason that the D string broke! :ROFLMAO: What I find mildly interesting is that I previously had a Godin nylon. Absolutely gorgeous guitar, but the nut was about 2 inches. Way bigger than my arthritic fingers could...

    Nylon String/Guitar Question

I just bought a Harley Benton Thinline Nashville Nylon guitar. The tuning machines are 18:1 typical open back. All but one of the strings (the D string) are original to the guitar. I had to replace the D. I replaced it with a D'Addario Pro-Arte. normal tension, .029" (0.74mm). My question is...

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

I worked for 10 years for a company that make the printheads used to "print" the designs you see on signs, posters, window blinds, tile, even bedding. They also made the printheads that are used in 3D rapid prototype machines. Amazing technology.

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

Of course it's veneer. It's pretty obvious that it's 2 pieces. Same with my Epi LP. It's a cherry 'burst maple veneer split down the center.

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

Totally forgot, but I just got a Harley Benton Nashville. Really nice thinline nylon with a smallish nut. Nice fit for my hands. It's Chinese by way of Germany. Aside, a friend of mine bought a HB Resonator a while ago. Also Chinese. He loves it.

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

I know this post is about Chinese guitars, but I have a particular place in my heart for Korean Epiphones. I have 5 that I can put my eyes on. They are all gorgeous, sound great and are a joy to play. This topic is kinda like comparing UK, Canadian and USA girls. Doesn't matter where they were...

Anybody else bought a guitar for what it looks like?

I have 2 Fireflys that are as good as anything. The "335" is the Firefly. I replaced the Asian pups with a pair of Seymour Duncan Custom Customs. I used it yesterday to record some stuff with my friends. The "SG" is also a Firefly. The pups are Pearly Gates by Seymour Duncan. Interestingly...

    FRFR Speaker Question for Keyboards

Thanks for the reply. First, I would like to know whether it's worth the $$ for an FRFR Cab to get a "realistic" sound out of my keyboards? Specifically, the dynamics of a Yamaha C-3., or a 69 Rhodes, or a CP-80? I have VSTs that can emulate these instruments (obviously not perfect, but better...

    FRFR Speaker Question for Keyboards

I have a Yamaha MO8, an M-Audio Oxygen 49 and a TASCAM 16x08. I have some pretty good VSTs that I would like to use in a live situation. I've tried putting the output of the DAW into a guitar amp, but it sounds like what you would expect from a guitar amp. My question is, does anyone have any...

    TELE NECK WORK ADVICE

That's a very good question, to which I really don't have a very good answer. Suffice it to say that I have 13 guitars (?) of all qualities and breeds. I can't possibly play them all. This one I'm working on will be just fine at the end of the day. I'm not a gigging musician. My good Tele needs...

    TELE NECK WORK ADVICE

Being who I am, (bored) I took a soft sanding block with 400 & 600 grit, and ran it gently up and down the neck at a 45o angle. The sharp fret edges are gone AND I got a nice little radius on the fretboard. Very smooth, very subtle, and quite comfortable. I did a quick check on the fret level...

    TELE NECK WORK ADVICE

I saw a good number of videos on it. The one I referenced above was good. I have the neck off now, and have been contemplating  I think I have a plan. First, get rid of the sharp edges; radius the fretboard corners; and smooth the fret edges. Then, I'll do the leveling, crown and...

    TELE NECK WORK ADVICE

Here's a decent vid. The neck in the vid is what mine looks like now. I just want to break the edges just to add a little radius. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me. Rolled Fretboard Edging

I'm selling my favorite Tele. A USA LTD beauty. I have a Chinese Firefly that I bought on a whim for short $. I will preface this with by saying I have done fret/neck work in the past, I have all the necessary tools, and have had very good success on my guitars and friends guitars. Facts:: the...
