Personally I loathe the Blue Kickball. Worst mic I've had the displeasure of trying out (aside from some no-name ribbon). Wouldn't be surprised if the quality control on them sucks too. Bring it back and let them know what's up. Health regulations be damned if they sold you a faulty mic.

Yeah, I think at this point it's basically a matter of preference for the individual listener. Personally I like a more drum-heavy mix but the band wants guitars to be in front of everything, then bass not far behind, then vocals/drums balanced. Kind of weird but so far it's turning out decent...

It just sounds like you need a little bit better compression done on the voices. The content is there, just not the right squish.
