    balancing budget between mic/preamp...

Nice recording! Yes of course, I didn't mean to imply by the word "home demos" that you shouldn't try to make your recordings sound CD quality. I only meant to suggest that they're not going to sound the same as recordings made in a professional studio with a broad selection of quality mics...

    balancing budget between mic/preamp...

Dairy Giant, please understand that no offense is intended toward you. But, the fact that a question like this is even being asked indicates to me just how screwed up the priorities are of many home recordists. In particular, there is WAY, WAY too much attention being given to the supposed...

Help me on builting a guitar on Warmoth !

Also consider . . . You should also consider Guitar Parts, USA. Here is their website: http://www.guitarpartsusa.com/ Very good quality stuff, and they are also licenced to provide replacement parts for Fender guitars. From what I understand, this company is (sort of) a spinoff from Warmoth...

Help me on choosing a mic

I agree. Of the brands that are available to you, I would look at the Rode mics, as well as the Audio Technica brand (the good AKG mics, such as the 414, are likely to be beyond your budget). Like billisa said, I would stay away from the Behringer and Samson brands. Bassman Brad

    Thoughts on Mic selection?

Well, I'm not jkokura, but I can tell you that whichever one you get, you'll be very, very happy with it. These are both AWESOME microphones. Once again, (and this is my opinion ONLY - others may disagree), I would say that the SM7 gets the nod as a vocal mic, but the RE20 would be the one to...

    Thoughts on Mic selection?

Pretty solid mic locker, if you ask me. I don't think I would make any changes, myself. I was a little confused about why you felt that you needed the Green Bullet. From what I recall, it wasn't good for anything but micing the harmonica. Then I remembered that one of the popular mic...

New to Bass, and I have some questions.

The Mexi jazz basses are fine. The Badass bridges are nice. The Badass is much heavier and will increase sustain, which will give you a different tone. Nothing wrong with it, but it is definitely a different sound. If you want to stick with a more "traditional tone" then find something with...

    siblance of SM-7 vs. RE-20

Man, I LOVE that post. :D :D :D Great analogy, Chess. Bassman

    siblance of SM-7 vs. RE-20

Just to confuse the matter more Well, since you've mentioned a desire for low sibilance and a "classic rock" sound, have you considered omnidirectional dynamic mics? Omnidirectional mics help control sibilance, too. One good example would be the Electrovoice 635. (At least, I think that's...

    siblance of SM-7 vs. RE-20

Wow! I'm really surprised that anybody has ever had ANY problems with sibilance when using a SM7. In my experience, the SM7 was the mic that was used to TREAT sibilance problems. If you needed to "soften" the highs without cutting them out via EQ (but didn't have a ribbon mic on hand) the SM7...

    siblance of SM-7 vs. RE-20

Personally, I've always been impressed with the way that an SM7 can kill sibilance without killing the high frequencies along with it. It's almost ribbon-like in this regard. For that matter, I always thought that the SM7 even sounds sort of like a ribbon mic. The highs are just so smoooooth...

    Upgrade Pre Amp or mics?

Yep. I think Chessrock pretty much nailed it. Bassman

    CD recording & Dynamic Processing

Cool. Let us know how it works for you. ;) And remember to invest in a decent rack for it, if you decide to use it for live, location recording. Brad

    MXL V67G as performance mic

In my experience, LDC's (or ANY condenser mic, for that matter) are VERY hard to use in a live setting. They are so sensitive, that they are very prone to feedback, unless you are working at very, very low volume levels. Of course, you didn't say anything about monitoring, so if you are just...

    CD recording & Dynamic Processing

I don't think you'll be disappointed in this unit. The Alesis Masterlink is VERY, VERY highly regarded as a mastering deck. Heck, the encoders in that thing are so good that I've heard people say that they'd buy it just for that reason alone. I hope to pick one up myself within the next...

    need a professional mic

Should we tell him? Do you suppose that we should mention to Mr. "Thug Lord" that most "professional" recording studios already HAVE a selection of microphones available to use? Brad

What's the best mic under $3.50?

Deteriorating? I agree, this discussion IS deteriorating. Maybe we should just let this thread die a peaceful death, now. Especially the soup can discussion. Because, let's face it, once word gets out about the use of classic Cambell's soup cans as microphones, the price of used Cambell's...

KSM32s, im going to do it...

I personally don't think you can go wrong with a pair of KSM 32's OR 44's. Both are fine microphones, that will find lots of applications in any mic collection. However, at this price point, I'd recommend that you at least consider a pair of ADK TL's, instead. I think they street right at...
