I am looking and it is a bit confusing. Who is having succes with a laptop setup? What model are you using? Does a P4 work as good as a Centrino? How about an AMD 2400 or 2500? Using an external firewire drive are you able to record 8 tracks at once? Right now my home destop is a PII 600...

if you really mean "real studio use" then its Pro Tools - but TDM or HD All the others are great and so is Pro Tools LE. Just as is said a matter of preference. For an all in one composing/producing package - I think Sonar is great. lD

Hello Looking to get a new notebook and tring to make sense out of the Ghz - doesn’t seem to really mean anything anymore? Is a 1.7 Ghz Centrino as fast as a 2.6 Ghz Piv and a 2500XP? Any clear way to determine speed? Thanks for any replies.. lD

TC if you run pro tools the TC Electronics MasterX3 is great. They have a hardware version as well.

You may be able to borrow a friends 4-track that has 4 direct outs - It may work - then you can record all 4 seperate tracks at once. lD

truth Jay, I totally agree with your advice. As nice as it would be to have a rockin ProTools for 1-2 Grand. 002 , 001 etc.. aren't TDM or HD. One acts like a recording machine, one acts like a computer. BUt hey.. I'd take a 002 rack any day. lD

Have you created a midi track? Try setting the midi input to "OMNI" rather than channel one. If you have a midi track, have you set its output to the Quicktime? Good luck, lD
