Do I have to have overheads?

What's your budget. For a room mic; spend a lot. For a whole close mic set up... Spend even more ;) I have a 10 piece mic set up going on 11 to cover the ride. Thank god for sm57's because I would be about $2000 into it instead of $1000 :D

    what is this

Buttkicker This is a replacement for 18" monitors ripping every thing you have to listen to music! It's better to use a trigger with this. I have felt this and it's AWESOME!!! watch out for the 1000 watt, it will give you the big "O" :D

    Snare Drums

Export I bought a export snare and was suprised with the quality for a cheap snare. I'm keen on marching snares as far as sound goes.I love a crisp sound with an ear cracking rim shot. If I could put a marching snare on my kit I would, but it wouldn't sound right. :D

Overheads I think the basic setup is a bass mic and two overheads. Then comes close micing. Overheads are mainly to pick up the crashes and ride/hihats.with a little toms. Snare comes through no matter what...

    Guitar Tuner on drums?

Great Advice! I have over the years gotten used to tuning by feel. If you play around you can figure how one lug can bend the pitch so it's flat. Try to keep all lugs the same tension, but go around again by feel and see if you can get more sustain. I prefer to tune the top head a little...

    Working out and drums.

Thats great! however I've experienced that curls can slow you down. Make sure that you stretch out good! The best workout for chops I feel is doubles, big stick heights for as long as you can go without buzzing, ;) Then go to single srokes :D

    shhhh....

New Kit When you start out, make sure you learn control before you speed up. When playing on the actual head It will be quite something to get used to. Try to play as much in the center of the head as you can. GOOD LUCK :)
